Down and Out / Happy Pills?

MeanOleMe's picture

The stress is getting to me... BIG time. I just can't stand all of the drama. I have never been a fan of drama, and always stayed away from it. How did my life turn in to one big soap opera. I am just sick of it.

I have high BP. I have to be on medication. I am also going to the doctor today to see about "happy" pills. I am tired and just over all feel like crap all the time. I know it is stress. I know it is. WHY? Should I have to be medicated to live my life? I should not have to be on medication to go home at night, but I also can't continue feeling like I'm feeling, so I feel it is my only option.

Well, I guess that... or not going home at night.

My son deserves more. He deserves a better mommy, and I have to do something to give it to him. Hopefully it will help.

I took my first "happy" pill this morning. I am almost 42 years old, watched my father die of cancer in 2001, threw my husband out of my house a few months later, and was working three jobs. But, I made it through that.
I am not a fan of pills - any pills. I always thought that people who took "happy" pills were weak. I saw my Dr. yesterday and I told him exactly that. I completed a questionnaire while I was in his office and answered each question honestly and my score added up to moderately to severely depressed. My Dr. also told me that it is a chemical imbalance in the brain - it's not emotional weakness. I cried when he told me that. I felt a huge relief. So, I'm NOT crazy. I may be a tad hormonal at my age also.
Please don't hesitate to seek help to feel better. It's no different than a diabetic needing insulin.
Good luck to you.
My Dr. prescribed Pristiq for me. I will let you know how I'm feeling in a week or two.

I really wonder how many SM are on "happy" pills? I bet we could keep the drug companies in business.

I take Bupropin.

I've taken other anti-depressants and they caused sexual side effects, weight gain, nausea, etc.

Be careful to look over the side effects...

Good luck to you.

Started taking this med today. Sexual side effects? Like "good, want it all the time" side effects? Or the opposite?

The worst was Paxil. I didn't want to be touched... at all. No cuddles, no hugs, certainly no sex. And when I did cave and put out, I counted down the minutes (hours...lol) til it was over.

I haven't taken Pristiq, but if you give me a while I'll look up some user reviews online for you and see if I can find some scoop on it.

I would love some user reviews. I have to admit I'm a tad uncomfortable with taking any medication, unless it's an antibiotic. But this is my first "potentially long term" med.

Mostly mixed... lots of people say it alleviated their depression... some gained weight, some say they didn't take the pills on "days they wanted to have sex" which sounds weird.

My advice would be to keep some kind of journal and note how you feel each day so you don't lose touch with your pre Pristiq body, KWIM?

I'll PM you the links.

Squillion, I took Paxil before and had the same results. I COULD CARE LESS. One of the problems I was having was that I didn't want to have sex period....BEFORE I even took Paxil...I didn't mention that to my doctor because I thought that was just related to me being depressed/anxious. You add Paxil on top of it and....well, again, I could care even less (than before)after taking it!!

I ended up switching doctors because we moved....after telling him about my issues with Paxil, he said that was the last medication he would've prescribed to me. He said it can work for some, but was completely wrong for me. He said Paxil is one of the medications that is known for having the worst sexual side effects...Paxil, in large doses, is given to child predators/molesters as a form of chemical castration.

Uh....holy crap...they gave ME that?!?! :jawdrop:

Again, some people may not have those side effects....it can work wonders for them.... JUST NOT FOR ME!!
