Seriously what is it with the Pet Names?

My niece19 did not grow up with her bio father and family. It wasnt until a couple of years ago that they started having a relationship. (long story)

I know biofather family well. Bio Aunt is actually one of my best friends.

Anyways, EVERY SINGLE TIME my niece posts something on FB, biodad and usually biograndma and some of the aunts (there are 5 aunts) goo-goo gaa and pet name talk my niece.

I tell her they are always her co-signers on FB. LOL. No matter what she posts they always post something.

Niece on FB:

Went to Taco Bell, cinnamon twists are so good. (she is preggers)

Bio Dad: I love you honey!
Bio Grandma: You are so sweet!
Bio Aunt: Miss you sweetie!
Niece: Miss you too!
Bio Dad: Post pic of him on a "guys vacation" (think strip clubs, drinking and fishing) "Wish you were here honey!"
Another BioAunt: Love you cutie!

I feel like because she wasnt in their lives for so long that they feel the need to OVER do it. As in, the more they show her they love her, they can make up for that time.

The thing is biofamily lives 2 1/2 hours away from her.

They have only seen her 2 times in the 1+ years since they have been in contact with her. Once biodad and bioaunt came to see niece. Then once niece went to their town for one of bioaunt's wedding.

This doesnt really directly affect me and it doesnt make a difference on my life. It's just a little vent.

I just cant with the pet names... I seriously think its overdone in broken families.

ETA: About them only seeing her twice- I mean it as in they can come and see her whenever they want. They just havent. I guess they are okay with maintaining their "relationship" with her on FB?????

Amen to that!!!
But in this case, I have a feeling he's overcompensating for not being there when she was a cutie or sweetie. lol

Oh I have the issue with DH calling both me and YSD "Baby". Irritates the hell out of me.

Dh used to call his daughter "Babe", "Baby", and "Sweetie" until I finally couldn't take it anymore and told him how queasy it made me feel, how repulsed I was by it. How could he call me and his daughter by the same pet name? Gross. I witnessed it from the time she was 10 to 12 years old before I finally said something. I assume he had been calling her those things her whole life. I don't feel bad about putting an end to it. It really is creepy to me since I wasn't raised that way.
