Sorry for the OT...

Has anyone been to South Padre Island? I've been researching and researching and researching trying to find the *perfect* place for DH and I to go for our 5 year anniversary and I think I have settled on South Padre Island. There is a resort there, right on the beach that seems to fit all of my "wants". Plus the prices seem very good.

I know it's known as a party place during Spring Break but we would be going in early October (I know.... hurricane season).

Thanks!

Oh I know about this place,

invested with bugs, snakes, fleas and thieves and rapist....... it's a disgusting time of the year to go, tornado's flattens it annually...
hummm hummmm inhabitants of this place are all entitled little brat SD's and they see a evil SM from a mile away, they will flirt with your husband, drug your drinks and abuse your credit cards......

o dang, I'm so jealous.... if I want to go somewhere romantic and affordable I have 2 options..... bush or desert...

I live on the 3rd coast, Padre Island is a very nice little Texas coastal town. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time there. Very relaxing and friendly. Hope you have a great time there. The good thing about hurricanes is, you will be warned well in advance of impending threat. So pull up your boots and come on down.

Nice place. I would worry more about hurricanes in Texas in August/September. Not say they can't happen in October, but it's less likely.

Check out Port Aransas, TX. Went there and had a wonderful time - not too far from Padre.

DH and I have gone to Holiday Inn Corpus Christi-N Padre Island a few times, it's actually where we got engaged. It's not the fanciest place, but they've updated it since I've been and it's RIGHT on the beach which is awesome and affordable (compared to a lot of other places). I would definitely recommend it. There are a lot of Holiday Inns in the area so be sure to look at the one with this address: 15202 Windward Dr, Corpus Christi, TX 78418

Bobz Inside World made me laugh... It caught me off guard when I was driving out to South Padre from Harlengen so I had to stop by on my way back into town.

There is a good ice cream place by the Port Isabel lighthouse & I wish I'd been able to wander the area a bit more, but it was middle of the day in June.

If you're interested in history, the 'mold' for Iwo Jima is at the military school in Harlengen.

I was only in the area for a week for work, but I had fun, even in the blazing heat of spring.

South Padre is great, but NOT in the fall. Seriously, you are definitely risking trouble with that window. Not only with an actual hurricane but a tropical storm & even if it doesn't hit South Padre, those storms make the water change & all sorts of nasties find their way ashore.

A couple of girlfriends and I took a trip to South Padre Island a couple years ago. We went the week after Spring Break - and we basically had the entire island to ourselves, seriously. It was amazing. The weather was great - it's a fun little place!

If you are flying in - don't rent a car, just take a cab to/from the airport. They have free buses that go all around the island. and make sure you check out the sea turtles! Smile

The first vacation Dh and I ever went on we drove to SP Island. We went the week of Easter (also my bday week). Turns out there was something called "splash"-something that week and I got the pleasure of watching dh get flirted with by every "eligible bachelor" on the island, was hilarious!(he was a good sport about it)
One spot I remember very well had an AMAZING banana type drink(I wish I could remember the name) and fun atmosphere, "Louie's Backyard". Not too spendy and the other guests were awesome. Great food/drink selection. We went there several times during our stay.
