I have my Series 7, 9 and 63 and may take the new one, 79 next year, but none of these are required for what I do. I had taken them when I was working with a Banking firm in my 20's.

I am a Buy-Side Intermediary. Basically, I work on retainer for Private Equity Groups looking for companies to acquire based on their specific parameters.

Great post, always fascinating to see what everyone does.

I run the ALC (Alternative Learning Center) in my school district.. so all the kids who get suspended and act like jerks in class get sent to me.

Trust me, I've had some real doozies in my 15 years in this job. Just had to call the police last week because I had a 2nd grader completely out of control. Yep, fun times. Anyway, DH thinks that because I work with hard to reach, usually disrespectful, troubled kids, that I should be thankful and grateful of skids because they aren't THAT bad...DH doesn't understand that I only have to see these kids for a short time each day...AND I don't have to spend MY money on their ungrateful, entitled little butts. And at work? for the most part, what I say goes, I am the boss. Unfortunately at home, nobody gives a crap what I say or want and the world must revolve around catering to spoiled, entitled, skids.

Maybe I am a big fat jerk. To the point where I just don't care anymore Sad

DaizyDuke's picture

It's not all bad... most of the kids aren't too bad when they get removed from the regular classroom environment and their peers. And to be 100% honest? Most of the kids act the way they do, because of their parents. It's not the kids I have a problem dealing with, it's usually the parents!

the BMs and Guilty Daddys we all see and hear about every day, who make excuses, blame everybody else, and then act the fool themselves and wonder why their kids are screwed up. Sad

Azure's picture

omg, my son was in a school like yours for 1st and 2nd grade. You have my utmost respect Daizy. ***bows to you*** I remember what those teachers went through in my son's school.

zerostepdrama's picture

Understandable. Smile

I asked because it gives me an idea of who I am "talking to". Helps me understand the person more.

StepKat's picture

Mine is male-dominated as well. There is a grand total of 3 females in the entire building.

Jsmom's picture

I go to a conference every year and 4,ooo men and about 200 women. So depressing. I am always the only woman in the room...You would think it would get better, but it is the same as it was when I started in this industry in the late 90's.

JustAgirl42's picture

I'm jealous. Most all of my co-workers are female. Sad

I design and maintain the software that houses medical records in a hospital. Being a smallish hospital, I also wear a number of other "hats".
The best part about my job? I love it. I truly love my work, coworkers and make a good income now that I have been here for ten years. Smile

B22S22's picture

Are you in IS, or do you have a Health Information background? I used to be a Manager in a HealthInfo department at a large hospital. Now I work for a national firm auditing healthcare organizations.

zerostepdrama's picture

I love real estate. As in I get on the websites and look at houses. LOL. Houses that I can't afford, houses in my budget, houses that I can most def. afford. Houses not even in my same state. Just because I love looking at houses!

Tuff Noogies's picture

i often refer to myself as the office octopus- i've got my hands in everything, i've always got everything covered, and i CAN do everything here (if i was cloned multiple times...)

Azure's picture

Good luck! I know it's not easy.... I have a few certificates but no licenses (not needed in my particular job) but I know people who do.

Kiwiflowers6's picture

Corporate Administrator for a multi million dollar packaging entity that also deals in ingredients for some of the most known brand names in the world. ( Cannot say the name, signed a conf. agreement)

But wish some more of that money trickled down to me. Could really benefit my family. lol

Great Job title, for being in my mid twenties, now waiting for the money to catch up.

farting_glitter's picture

Bartender.....and LOVE it!!!!!!...I have a job that I actually enjoy going in to....soooooo much fun!...

zerostepdrama's picture

I was a bartender and waitress until I had BS.

I miss how much fun it was to interact with people, be active (on my feet not just sitting behind a desk), cash at hand, and all the yummy food I would eat.

I worked at a chain resturant for a long time and I am still best friends with the girls I met while working there. So many great memories.

I always say if I had to leave my current job I would find a bartending job. Or be a office cleaner. No lie. I like to clean. I can do my work and not be bothered. It pays decent money. I can do my job and then go home.

farting_glitter's picture

oh yeah!....I make great money in tips..i can't complain.... Smile ...i work in a local bar that has been here for 20 years...great customer base and ALOT of regulars...i have met some of the best people while bartending...i love the atmosphere!....and money.... Pre-k teacher in the mornings and I run an after school program for 1st grade in the afternoon. My degree is almost done but I already have my teaching certificate from the state. The degree will get me better pay is all.

I enjoy my job. But oh some of the stories I could tell about parents! Lol.

Administration Assistant. Doesn't sound like much, but it pays good and I like it!

DaizyDuke's picture

My dad retired from Captain rank in the Sheriff's Department and goofed off for year or so and then went back to work in Parole. He just retired from Parole, 2.5 years ago, (he got lucky when the economy went to crap and they were looking to cut, so they offered him early retirement) so now he collects 2 retirements at 63 years old. Pretty cool, that you can lead two lives!

queenofthedamned's picture

I work in veterinary medicine but am in school now doing pre-med courses, planning to apply to med school in a few months. I wish I would have done this a decade ago but it's never too late to pursue a dream!

GhostWhoCooksDinner's picture

Good for you! I went back for my Master's when I was 38. You're right about it never being too late!

DarkStar's picture

Network engineer for a healthcare technology company. I help support the phone system and network stuff (routers, switches, firewalls, etc)

I am the only female in a department of guys. It's GREAT! No chick drama here!

PetStr's picture

I own a Professional Pet Sitting Service with 4 employees. I am everything. Pet sitter, office manager, cpa, boss, trainer, HR dept, Marketing, vet tech, you name it!

zerostepdrama's picture

Awesome!

GhostWhoCooksDinner's picture

I'm a social worker. I used to do individual, couples and family therapy, but now do habilitation work. Therapy was boring!

I recently got a promotion, but lost it when personnel decided they weren't "able to promote anyone at this time."

Eff working for the state government!

I'd leave in a heartbeat, but I won't find health benefits and a retirement plan like I have now anywhere else.

Unfreakingreal's picture

I'm a sales exec, for a small, custom, manufacturing company. Been here 21 years and I am seriously sick of it.

I used to bartend as well, I loved it.

I am a writer/novelist, taekwondo instructor, and cast member on SNL. I do stand-up comedy on the side and guest star as a walker on The Walking Dead.

Oh, wait....nope, that was what I dreamed last night. HA!
Biggrin

Harleygurl's picture

She had me too! I was about to ask how I could be an extra on The Walking Dead so I could oogle Norman live rather than lick my TV! LOL

PetStr's picture

Lol @ Ghost! Wish dreams came true. Do you know how many times I've dreamt I was making out with Norman Reedus? Lol

Retired cop. Waiting to start nursing school in the fall for career #2.

I'd have to disagree with Glitter - *police work* was the best job in the world. Smile Always looked forward to going in every rotation.

farting_glitter's picture

hats off to you Tabby!...police work is a lot like bartending....lots of crazy, stupid, out of their mind people just waiting to act a fool at 3 a.m.......good times...good times.... Wink

JustAgirl42's picture

Thanks for serving and protecting the people!

And, I want your kitty!! Smile

University research administrator here. I handle pretty much anything that deals with university grants and contracts for faculty research. Wildly complex and highly regulated. Love it.

JustAgirl42's picture

HA!

Azure's picture

Aww! You work for Hershey? I've always wondered what that would be like.... I don't live too far from there - been there many many times. Love it!

Lady Danger's picture

I'm a lender for a credit union. Mostly involved in corporate agriculture. Very structured and black and white, and I'm good at it. Conversely my home life is waffle-y grey, with DH mixing the paint.

Jmom's picture

I'm a stripper . . .or at least I pretend to be on ocassion! Actually I work in marketing for a restaurant company with about 600 locations. I love my job but need a serious raise/promotion really bad. I'm really pushing for it this year.

LuckyGirl's picture

I work in a company that deals with raw material export. I only got the job because I speak several languages, as I had zero experience nor related qualifications going in! But I'm actually very good at what I do.

Qualified physiotherapist, can't work in that field due to an injury (mine I hasten to say not my patients!). I worked as a croupier for years to pay my way through university - fully understand that "3 a.m. and another a**hole makes his appearance" feeling Blum 3

I'm really jealous of all you people that can count on getting better wages by increasing their qualifications... It just doesn't work that way where I live Sad

PetStr's picture

What languages do you speak? I'm fluent in French, Spanish and Portuguese. I have a Master's degree in Languages and Linguistics but I'd rather scoop poop for a living! Lol

noway70's picture

That's interesting! I speak exactly the same languages!
But my degree is in Communications (Journalism).
I work as a translator and English and Portuguese teacher. I'm Brazilian and live in the outskirts of Rio.

PetStr's picture

I'm French Canadian but I now live in the USA. Learnt Spanish when I lived in Cuba and my step-father is from Portugal.

Account manager for one of our top customers building custom computers. I'm in charge of the sales, but get down and dirty in production if we're overwhelmed because we're also contracted with the DoD and sometimes they snowball us with orders. My father owns the company so it's even more imperative that I make sure everything is running smoothly.

Own the martial arts school DH teaches at. And the building it's in. Also own another rental property. So landlord. I'm a really laidback landlord but can get vicious if they eff stuff up on purpose.

In school to finish my acupuncture license. Halfway through. Big career change. I also work one day a week at the school's front desk because my mother is friends with the president and the clinic director and they needed someone to fill the spot as an emergency, so she "volunteered" me.

Also a SAHM, if you can count working 24/7 with a baby in tow SAH....

noway70's picture

I used to have chronic sinus infections that would make me cry out in pain since I was a child. About 10 years ago, I treated them with electromagnetic acupuncture. They are completely gone!

not2sureimsaneanymore's picture

It's funny because I never really believed in acupuncture despite the fact that my great grandfather, grandfather, and mother were/are acupuncturists until much later when I saw some seriously weird stuff come from it. I was actually taught apprentice style by my grandfather from the time I was 3, but I wanted to be a vet so I went the biomed route... until I found out much too late that I am too squeamish to dissect live animals.

I've seen it do some crazy things. From women who lost their periods start to bleed right after, to getting pregnant after years of trying, to finally maintaining a pregnancy and giving birth after 15 (yup, count'em: 15) miscarriages, to a woman who had chronic hives completely regain smooth skin, to a young man who had bad allergies (asthma attack if he comes near fur/pollen/dust) no longer have the allergies at all, to a severe paralyzed stroke patient whose prognosis was to die within the next two months not only regain the ability to walk, talk, cook, and knit, but live on for another 14 years to finally pass from lung cancer (my grandmother), to a woman who was hemorrhaging to death due to a late term stillbirth and stopped bleeding within 5 minutes after being treated while waiting for an ambulance to a bigger hospital from the OBGYN clinic (my mother.)

Yeah. So after being there to witness these things, I decided I'd go back to my roots and pursue a license to help people when there are no other options.

I tend to recommend it when people have exhausted all their western medical options.

Support worker for elderly people in a retirement housing complex. The things they get up to is unbelievable!! You wouldn't expect to have to deal with fights between 80 year olds, claims of sexual harassment and drunken behaviour, but at least it stops me from getting bored!!

arjuna79's picture

I rewire brains for a living. but we can't fix stupid!!!!

I mean, Dr of physical therapy, run my own biz (15 yrs), run medical education seminars nationwide.

SMto2's picture

Wow, lots of paralegals here. I could use a good one in my office! Smile I've been a lawyer for 20 years. DH and I are partners/owners in a medium-sized law firm. We do nothing related to domestic work, thank goodness! Smile
