I'll be at work, enough psychos at work, don't need to go out looking for more, plus we are flat BROKE so no big shopping this year, oh well skids if you made better choices in life you might get a Christmas but alas. (feigned heartache)

Not going out Black Friday.

I am not looking for anything in particular as we are having a theme "Gifts From The Heart" Christmas. Gifts have to be handmade with love. My kids are all grown now, so there are no wants anymore.
We used to have this theme:
Something you want,
Something you need.
Something you like and
something to read!

No real good stories of Black Friday, other than once when my kids were small, I had an item in my cart, and another woman took it out and put it in hers as I was watching. I asked her what she was doing and she replied. "Oh I thought that was a cart that an employee was using to stock the shelves with".
I walked over to her cart and said NOPE and took it back out of hers and put I back in mine. She stared at me with disbelief that I would take it back! She said nothing as I walked to the check out!

My favorite store to go to is Chapters!

I've been going for a few years.

Last year I got DS's PS4 at Wal-Mart and they price matched Best Buy for a video game he wanted. I was pretty stoked. I was with my best friend where she lives in KY and the Wal-Mart wasn't even that packed. She said it's because they live in a poorer area, so not that many people (compared to where I live) can shop. I wanted to go back there this year, but it's not working out.

First year my sister and I went, was the first year they started doing it on Thanksgiving night. We waited in line for a couple of hours at Target but we had thermo cups filled with wine so it made the cold wait so much better. Ha Ha.

This year I don't have a shopping buddy so I think I am going to set my alarm for 3am and get Wal-Mart's deals that start at 3am on Thanksgiving Day.

I like Black Friday for video games, systems, tv, etc.

I got the last 3DS one year! I was so happy about it! It was the first time I bought a "big" gift for BS for Xmas and I got it for a good deal.

I do like going in the store. Lots of excitement. I've never run into any issues with people being rude or violent.

My niece works for Amazon and the only day that the warehouse she works at is closed is Christmas Day.

zerostepdrama's picture

Yeah she is working Thanksgiving and they work 10 hour days. 7:30-6.

I was shocked that the only day off for employees is Christmas Day.

They are in mandatory OT through the holidays- so she is working 6 days a week 10 hour days. She was a SAHM/in home babysitter. I feel so bad for my little great-niece who went to having her mom around all the time to now she hardly sees her Sad

Went once, never again.

FDH and I waited in line for over TWO hours at ToysRus in the freezing cold one year. All for a doll that SD played with maybe twice max.

DH and I go (on Friday only). We like getting up early and shopping while it's still dark. Then we go to breakfast and go home, with plenty of the day left for relaxing.

I go through the ads on Thursday to see what we might want and where we want to go. We LOVE going to Lowe's and The Home Depot!

zerostepdrama's picture

I've only ever been to Target and Wal-Mart. I'll have to check out Lowes and Home Depot for DH.

I like tools almost as much as DH but they have a lot of kitchen and home stuff, too. The Home Depot has already started filling up the end of the aisles with all kinds of kitchen stuff.

i've done it twice. the first time was a BLAST. this was before WWIII w/ MIL, so she kept the kids while dh and i ran all over nearby-city all night long. we talked and people-watched while in line, and as far as gifts go we made out like bandits and got everything we had our eyes set on. breakfast was a mcmuffin and a 40 oz beer!! to this day we'll still talk about that night.

the next year i went was miserable. MIL and the three boys all went. it became about nothing more than blowing money on everything seen just cuz it was on sale. that was the first store, i got tired of it and waited them out on the bench by the front door. there was an hour or so before making the line on the next store and i said "ya know what, i'm just gonna go home."

Christmas shopping for me has lost it's joy as the kids have gotten older. but i do still enjoy getting dh gifts and the secret santa we do at work.

My mom worked (and retired from) a nursing home. She worked almost every holiday. It was just the way the schedule worked out. Once us kids were older, she always offered to work the holidays to give her co-workers with small children the day off. My mom said then she loved the holiday pay.

Sometimes the holidays just feel like another day to us, depending on what is/or isn't going on that day.

JustAgirl42's picture

My mom,a single mother, would offer to work all holidays when a nurse at the hospital. She got paid double, and sometimes triple, time.

When I worked at the hospital you were required to work every other holiday, but at least we got paid time and a half.

I just do everything on line. The Black Friday prices are all good on line and almost every one has free shipping... so I have no clue why anyone would want to get up at the crack of ass and stand in those stupid lines, when you could just have the cute Fed Ex man drop it right on your porch? Wink

To be honest, the day I REALLY like to go out is the day after Christmas! Especially to Target.. they usually have all their Christmas decorations, lights, wrapping paper etc marked down 75%, so I just stock up for next year.

Just purchased a rolling toolbox from Lowe's black Friday sale which was not slated to be on the floor until Black Friday. Actually, I purchased 2 since the deal was great. One for me and my ever-loving ADD-chaotic garage and one to give to my BS for Christmas.

Unfortunately, BS saw mine and asked if I would help him buy one to give to his father. Drat. So, ex-DH will wind up with the toolbox that I purchased for BS, but BS will pay me for it. Now I have to hunt for another gift for BS.

Oh and I went out ONCE a couple of years ago on Thanksgiving night to Walmart when they opened at 10 p.m. All I wanted was one of those motorized car things (that the little ones can drive) for BS6. I got there right at 10, but was confused when I walked in that all these people were already checking out with cart loads (apparently people show up early and mill around with the shit in their carts until 10p.m.?????) then I couldn't find the stupid cars because of course they had them over in the garden department so you have to wander around the store and hopefully buy other stuff... grrrr I finally saw a lady with one in her cart and asked her where she found it. So when I got to where they were, there was only one left. So I'm looking at it trying to decide if I want the car or the 4wheeler and this guy sees me eyeballing the car and comes and puts his knee on it, like he's "claiming" it. I was like whatever you freaking Walmart, hillbilly... I'm out of here.. Oh and the police were there for some altercation, it was BEYOND ridiculous!!! Nope, I'd gladly pay $100.00 MORE to not have to deal with the aggravation!!! ... or again.. just buy the shit on line and have it shipped to your front door.

My fav store is Amazon.com

I do almost all my shopping on line. Somehow waiting in line the day after Thanksgiving is not that appealing to me--but that's just me.
