Update on skids and maternity leave

WokeUpABug's picture

My prior blog on this subject is still up. DH and I went to see our couples counselor who convinced him that wanting some time alone just the three of us was normal and would not damage the skids for life, especially if explained to them. So he's on board, though still a little apprehensive.

As luck would have it though this baby is breech so doc says 50/50 it will turn head down by my 36 week scan. If it doesn't I will have a scheduled C section. Obviously I'm not thrilled about that but what can you do. Of course I will schedule it for a time so that when we arrive back home his kids aren't with us. Be careful what you wish for I guess...

Why isn't DH scheduling something for the skids to be watched when you go into labour? Sorry if I missed something but that would make more sense than you scheduling a C-section... I know there seems to be mixed feelings on the topic of sending skids away during labour/for a bit after the baby arrives but honestly i've seen lots of intact families do that as well. My DH is fine with it and he's sending SD to her mother's for 2 weeks or so - one leading up to labour and one after labour. If it drags out and I'm way overdue, he'll schedule BM to have SD a bit longer or get one of his family members up here so they can watch her.

Yes exactly! I would never have a C section just to avoid skids! As of right now I can request up to 2 skid free days when I get home and DH will have them stay with BM or his parents. That's if I can labor naturally.

Yup this was my argument to DH and the counselor. That even if we had another baby after this one I would seriously consider my own bio to stay with grandma for a few days so we'd have a little time to settle in.

Congrats Lilac! I've been following your blogs since I knew you were about a month or two ahead of me. Sorry to hear about the complications but glad everything worked out for you and little one.

I wish I could hug you,I know exactly how you are feeling. I hope baby turns for you, but it will be okay either way.

I was driving myself nuts with all the worrying about SS15 being around right after birth. I totally get it.

Wishing you the best!

My step kids were actually in the room with me when Dd2 was born. One of them
Cut the cord. He INSISTED they be there to see their sister born. And minutes after she was born one of them felt the other was hogging the baby and caused a huge big scene and her dad had to take her out of the hospital across the street to MCDonalds. That was my last baby. I don't get a do over. It
Wasn't
Me and him bonding over our new baby. It was him taking a 15 year old brat out of the hospital. So learn from my mistake and insist you get that bonding special alone time
