SD5 carried our 3 month old down a flight of steps

DH was home with all the kids while I was working. SD always wants to be around our baby, which I am glad about. But she treats her like she is a toy, which I am less than thrilled about. While DH was in the restroom, DD began to fuss in her cradle. SD went into our room, picked her up and carried her downstairs. Needless to say DH and I were not happy. Any advice on how to deter this behavior without killing her adoration for her sister?

This exactly. I love PPP to bits, she picks up BabyD and she is time out for a month of Sundays.

When I had my second son, my oldest would hug him and cuddle him and I was terrified that he was going to suffocate him. We had this bouncy chair that the baby would be in and oldest son would almost lay on top of the baby. They are 3 years apart.

I didn't want to punish him for loving his brother but I had to stop him, so we made rules about touching the baby. He could only hug the baby when he was out of the chair and couldn't lay in the playpen or crib with him, only on the floor and only with Mommy or Daddy there.

We had a couple of times I caught him hugging the baby and had to make it very clear, he wasn't in trouble because he loved his brother but because he broke the rules. We only needed the rule for 6 - 9 months. Once the baby was able to hold himself up, he was also able to push big brother away.

I agree with the tall baby gate. If she asks why, tell her it's so the baby can't get into trouble. Also majorly enforce the rule of no touching the baby unless an adult is with her.
