What's Up With HIgh School Students Taking Field Trips

thinkthrice's picture

every month and a half???!!!  As I recall, we had field trips in elementary school only and then it was a once a year thing at best.  This is what YSS16 DOESN'T need as his grades are beyond abysmal he would look at it as a way to escape school.

Maybe it is to give the teachers a break from the heathens.

I don't remember field trips outside of elementary school with the exception of one middle school teacher who was infamous for a very specific annual (local) field trip.

We didn't have class trips or anything of the sort.  It makes some of the blogs that involve senior trips or things of that nature odd to me, it's just an unfamiliar concept.

That aside, I would think a school sponsored activity like that would require certain adequate school performance in order to participate.  I don't think a field trip is a lesson plan in and of itself, merely an enhancement or even reward, so I can't imagine bad grades aren't reason enough to sit out.

There were plenty of kids from households that couldn't/wouldn't financially participate so it must not have been THE lesson plan because they didn't attend and they weren't at an educational disadvantage for missing out.

As a former teacher I can assure you it isn’t to give teacher’s a break. Trips take a lot of planning then constant supervision of pupils, very taxing.

I wouldn't be a teacher for all the money in the world.  They'd arrest me the first day.  If they were on a field trip, I'd be more like Mrs. Krabapple from the Simpsons.

My high school had field trips. Some were class specific and lasted from 1-3 hours, some were all day and some were longer trips like music groups going to Europe. They were definitely not a break or a boondoggle for the teachers.

You couldn't pay me enough to be a teacher of these heathens.  I would be in cuffs before the end of the day.

I can understand the field trip frequency if it was a vocational class but YSS is not in any vocational class.  He's just a massive failing, truant, lazy skid who is hiding under the smokescreen of "Learning Disabled---Other"

Field trips are not a break for the teacher. Kids get crazy and it's a lot of responsibility. I cam imagine it's even worse with high school. I'd take a regular school day over a field trip any day.
