O/T HAPPY ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS DAY!!!

thinkthrice's picture

And this one is a somber one for me.   They just got rid of our admin and sent her to another dept.   The wheels are falling off in our dept because of it!  Having used to be an Admin Pro, I can appreciate all the hard work they do!!

I'm an admin and have been for over 15 years now.  At all my previous jobs I loved this day.  I would usually get taken to lunch and flowers and little gifts.  In my office now I only have 1 co-worker (the rest are offsite).  He didn't even know it was today.  However, I let him know that it is admin's day (b/c we are close and I was just joking around with him) so he did buy my lunch for me!  That made me feel better seeing as my boss (also male) obviously either doesn't know it is today or doesn't care.  I haven't heard from him at all!  Oh well! I did see the school admin getting lavished with gifts as I dropped my son off this morning.  That made me happy.  She is super sweet and deserving!

Thanks PA! :)  It actually hasn't been bad.  I did get lunch and now it is pretty quiet and slow in here!  Plus no SD visit tonight.  Pretty sure that is a gift!

Aww, Cover1W, that is crap!  I am sorry you are not appreciated!  Even though my boss didn't contact me today I still feel appreciated for my work for the most part and he has made sure I get bonuses and is trying to help me grow into other roles.  Sounds like you need a company that knows your worth!

Well, yes and no.  Yes, we are appreciated, but it's a slog some days.  I do love my job and where I work.  I mooched free bagels from another depatment.  Part of the issue is we are managerless and have been for MONTHS.  And me and another co-worker are doing the management duties, PLUS our regular duties.  So maybe it was actually MY job to arrange something but you know what?  I don't have an expense account either...hey, I'm on vacation starting in two hours so there's that.

Um, that sounds like a hot mess.  Enjoy your vacation!!!!  My corporate office is 4 hours behind us.  My boss is offsite so I am really not surprised that I wasn't acknowledged by either.  My corporate office treats offsite locations like red headed step children, lol, they never acknowledge anything, job anniversaries, promotions, awards/etc.  My local boss is pretty awesome though so he does a good job of that usually but he is a man and you know how men are with dates/holidays/etc.

I'm an admin, in my old job they would buy me flowers and give me a nice gift card or a bottle of wine.

I have been at this new job for seven weeks and 3 people have told me thank you today and that was it. Honestly I would rather just not have the day because it sucks when you have people who don't do anything.

I was over in another building and most of those OM's got cards, flowers, lunch etc. I won't lie it stings, but then I figure meh I really don't want anything from this group anyway.

Well that sucks if they knew what day it was and didn't even get a card or anything!  It does sting a little in that case!  I pretty much expected nothing here.

Yeah but I’m over it, this office has done nothing but tear me down since I got here so I’m really not shocked.

:(  I really hope that you find another job and tell them to eff off!  Going to work somewhere with people that feel it is okay to tear down someone else is draining.  I have actually been in a situation like that as well.  It was great for 4 years and then the owner's son fresh out of college came to work there of course as COO (or some other power position, can't remember his exact title).  Anyways, he was a spoiled, entitled brat, that had never worked anywhere outside of gpa's/daddy's business and he treated people like crap.  He was a bully and untouchable.  Him and his aunt (who also worked there) decided to target me (probably b/c I was the weakest link-an admin at the bottom of the totem pole) and it was horrible the last year I was there.  It was so bad that another worker went to my direct boss without me knowing and told her she was tired of watching them harass me and get away with it.  Nothing was ever done though.

Our law firm treats it as "Staff Appreciation Day" so that all staff members will feel appreciated, so we had a catered luncheon brought in for the whole office. I also made gift baskets for the team of secretary and paralegals who work just for me and my hubby. Some of these people have worked for us more than a decade. I hate that there were people who didn't get anything or recognized in any way today. I feel a little goes a long way. If nothing else, I pride myself on showing appreciation to the people who make me look good and help me do a good job for my clients.
