Has Anyone Attended Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University?

Let me be more specific. Has anyone gotten their SO/DH/BF to go to or take online Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University courses?

Biodad is so truly horrific with money it's unreal. He repeatedly overdraws then blames the bank. He buys the first thing he sees and is an impulse buyer without doing any of the research first. And Biodad is the type to think that there's nothing wrong with him--anything he doesn't agree with is instantly proclaimed wrong. He's Mary Poppins--practically perfect in every way!

I can easily see him "BAHing" anything that is informative and doing the trademarked "hand wave" (palm up, hand/arm goes down, palm goes down while saying "BAAHH!")

Probably! Biodad has filed bankruptcy twice. The first time was dubious. The 2nd time was because I refused to pay his marital debt which I was getting stuck with.

It's very weird because I have a strict European background where we are frugal as all hell. He supposedly was brought up poor, but he sure likes to spend on niceties like steak, scallops and of course BOOZE.

Outside of the religious aspect, I apply most of Dave Ramsey's principles. Biodad, on the other hand, has to have his $205 of satellite radio every year, his $90 a month satellite TV, etc. etc. etc.

I haven't taken the class but I did read his books and found information very helpful. I would highlight certain things I wanted DH to see and skip over the stuff that didn't apply. I left the book in the bathroom with post-its on pages with highlighted sections. DH mentioned having looked at some of it. It has helped him in some ways.

The other posters are right, you can send someone to rehab but they will only stay/get sober if they want to and realize the harm they are causing.

My DH(then BF) and I took it together. I recommend it for everyone.

It's been two years now for us but we still apply Dave's principles and even our kids have said "What Would Dave Do"? when we're contemplating a purchase.

"If you live like no one else, later you can live like no one else."

ETA: Dave has FABULOUS parenting advice too. Seriously. And he's very funny.

I work in a Financial Advisory Firm that specializes in his program (As well as many other things) but I would recommend. I've learned so much. I used to be a terrible spender. As for getting the men to do it - depends on the guy. Some want to be tough-know-it-alls. Sometimes they have to learn they have a problem first by hitting rock bottom.
