First "Outing" in Girhippoville

Chef has made the decision to attend a funeral/memorial service in Girhippoville of a close friend this Saturday who was more like a close relative.  Which he is uneasy about.  The odds of running into someone from the Gir clan are quite high.  He hasn't attended any gatherings in Girhippoville well since almost two decades.   There have been several funerals/memorial services in the area that he knew the deceased well and yet had not attended for fear of running into one of the Gir clan.

And since the Gir clan is still seething with hatred for Chef including Chef's own blood brother from the last of the marriages (parents deceased) he is afraid that someone will start a "skirmish."   His older brother showed up last night with his latest GF in tow (these are people in their late seventies) who assured him that everything will be ok and that they will be giving the funeral speech that goes along with the club both he and the decedent belonged to.

Of course, Chef doesn't want to attend without me and we had to reschedule going to Awesomeson and DIL's house to reroute their heat after they had some remodeling done (and chance to see my extremely cute granddaughter!)  I'm not nervous about members of the clan being there.  I will find it quite interesting to say the least.

Apparently the deceased's daughter used to date Chef back in the day... or wanted to, just about the time Chef was "rediscovering" the Girhippo (the Gir was a school chum who moved away and then back again).   She too had passed away due an overdose so it makes it doubly difficult for Chef.

Do you think you would run into Girhippo or just her clan?  I'm guessing they will behave since its a memorial service.  Then again...who knows with these people!

It's maybe mean of me, but I'm laughing at the thought of an outlandish, Bravo-style skirmish at a funeral. I know, easy for me to laugh, since I'm not personally involved.

These are all people I DON"T know.  Old school reminiscing will take place no doubt.  I guess I'll be exposed to ye olde "when the Gir and I were married..."  That type of talk has totally evaporated over the last five years but it was annoying to say the least in the first five years and cropped up like nobody's business.
