No, you can't have it, it's mine

theoutsider's picture

This happened a while ago, but I just thought of it again.

I was unpacking boxes as we just moved in together. FSS10 saw me unpacking boxes and saw my MP3 player

"what's that?"

"my MP3 player"

"Can I have it?"

I froze, looked at him and very slowly said, "No. It is my MP3 player."

He groans "Ahhh,... that's not fair!"

He rolled his eyes at me and walked away...

UM SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT MUCH????

Does anyone else have any experience with this? Or insight into why he just automatically assumed whatever was mine could be his, he just had to ask for it???

I agree, goodtimes.. my BS is the same way, despite me telling him repeatedly how rude it is to just "expect" that he can have whatever he wants. Smile

Totally a kid thing!!

My kids never did that to me or dh. But neither did my skids. I do have good kids though. I can leave money all over my house and it wont be touched or they will bring it to me. I truly think it is all his they are raised and their environment.

I say that b/c when I was growing up my brothers and sister and I never stole or just assumed someone would give something that was theirs. But we had cousins that would steal and ask anyone for their stuff. Their mom would just say well its theirs now after they took something that wasn't theirs.

So yeah I do think it is environment and the way they are raised.

My SS15 lives by the philosophy of "what is mine is mine and what is yours is mine." It has been a constant struggle to maintain my privacy, he likes to "explore" or basicly snoop through other people's items. I even have to hide my toiletries or he will use up all my nice facewash and anything else he can get his hands on. When I bring it to his attention he pretends to have no idea of what I am talking about. The bigger items are harder for him to get to but I still leave nothing out. He will forget his cell phone and try to take someone else's, and any food in the house is his. He even started taking the pillows off my bed. I can't leave money around either. But dont you dare get near anything of his. He has no concept of sharing either.
