Stupid stepparent comments...

Really irritate the hell outta me.

I read them pretty often on here, and think WHY??? Why say that?? However, to be fair, it's likely that I make my own stupid stepparent comments to DH about his kids... especially now about SD and her pregnancy. (A whole 'nother subject!)

I have a house full of kids tonight. My DD12, as many know, is a competitive cheerleader. She's pretty good, too (toot, toot) and there are older and younger girls on her team. She has a friend from cheer over who *happens* to be a sophomore in HS. For those of you counting, my DD is in 7th grade (but should be in 6th) so this young lady is a few years older.

My DH, ever so delicately, asks me how old she is. I tell him. He follows with a "Hmmmm...." Um, ok, spit it out.

He's "just wondering" what DD is doing hanging out with a high schooler. (Insert disapproving tone.) Watching movies and painting nails, honey, why?!?

Oh, no real reason...

WTH?? Stupid little disapproving sounding stepparent comments BLOW. Enough already.

Just a BM's two cents.

Not sure what your point is here?

It's not that unusual to ask why a 12 year old is hanging out with a 15 year old. I was the 12 year old to my 15 and 16 year old cousins. There were light years between us.

Three years is nothing when you are older (my DH is almost a decade younger), but it's pretty significant at 12 and 15.

My point was that stupid little disapproving stepparent comments are both unneccessary and unproductive. IMO.

I had older friends. My best friend growing up (from ages 3-17) was almost 4 years older. Guess it's not that weird to me.

It's been hard for me, but I am learning to just keep. my. mouth. shut.

sometimes a comment will slip out, and i always instantaneously regret it.

His kids, his problem.
