pink eye

Saw baby (just shy of 4 months old) for Easter. BM told us she thought he had pink eye because his eyes had a little matter in them none that we could see. Having 3 kids who have all had pink eye more than once but never at such a young age I checked him out. Membranes of the eyes are fine, no excess mucus or pus or swelling of the lids or any sign of pink eye. His eyes do tear occationally but that is normal due to immature tear ducts plus BF's eyes tear for no reason too. My youngest had clogged ducts and her eyes would get really matterly and I had to massage them several times a day for a few days and the problem was solved. Anyway, BF emailed BM today and asked if baby had pink eye. BM's responce was she called the doc and said it sounded like pink eye so they called in a prescription for baby.

How lazy can you be to not take him to the office to be sure it is actually pink eye. Which it is not, grandma checked too and agrees baby's eyes are fine. The drops they give you for pink eye sting really badly. Poor baby and getting them in is pure h$ll for baby and parent. BM is off work this week for spring break so its not like she did not have time to take him in.

UGH!

Having worked for both family med and ophthalmologists, I find that really unlikely. Antibiotic drops are not always prescribed for conjunctivitis anyway, as many times it's viral and only a Dr will know which it is.

Maybe she's just pacifying you by saying there are drops.

Peace, love, and red wine

I mailed off the forms to get copies of baby's medical records from birth on so hopefully in short order we will get the info. I find it hard to believe that a doctor would prescribe something for someone so young without seeing them in the office. I can't count the number of times I called to ask a nurse a health question about one of the kids when they were that young and was told to bring them in no matter what could be the trouble - ear infection, swollen glands, gunky eyes, etc.
