SD's bday and softball game

Yesterday was SD's bday and she also had a softball game.  It was only her 2nd game of the season due to all the rain.  The weather was gorgeous and I had decided I would go to 1 game (mainly to see if it was as bad as cheer).  I figured what better day than her bday with beautiful weather?!?!?

Well folks, it was slightly more tolerable than cheer....and I won't need to go to anymore because I'm pretty sure I won't be missing out.  It pretty much went as I expected.  It is not an elite team so they are all basically beginners.  I'm not gonna dog them for that.  I was never any good at sports so kudos for them being involved.  However, as usual SD was the most annoying, off task, hot mess player.  Her first at bat they walked her b/c she got 4 balls....so she slowly ran to first base....then later stole 2nd base (which I was actually impressed with).  After that though her "sports induced asthma" kicked in....according to BM at least.  She looked fine to me.  Not like when I've seen people really struggling to breath.  Her 2nd at bat she did actually hit the ball (foul ball) but still good considering how the other players were.  I think that if she actually practices (doubtful) that this is a much better fit for her than cheer.

The most SD like thing I witnessed and DH missed.  He had gone to get my BS and our youngest from the park nearby.  SD's team was at bat but she wasn't scheduled to bat that round I guess (b/c of so many players).  She was "practicing" by throwing the softball into the fence near the dug out and having it bounce back towards her.  She was the only player not in the dug out.  Only player doing something other than cheering on teammates but you know we don't tell SD to do what the rest of the team does, right?!!? Well somehow she missed the fence so badly that she nearly missed hitting the families watching the game in the head but managed to hit her teammate in the butt.  Her teammate was on the field on third base.  She just barely missed hitting her couch.  I look at SD and she has the fake shocked look on her face.  Maybe it was accidental but SD has a major issue with attention seeking so hard telling.  At this point BM finally says, "SD get in the dug out with the other girls".....I don't know how BM was not more embarassed by this but it was a bit comical for me Wink

Well maybe this will be her "thing" but with all those balls flying around and bats being swung I predict a concussion of some sort in the near future with BM leading the charge that her child has now been brain damaged and of course neither you nor DH will never know for sure since neither of you will have witnessed it.

LMAO, yeah, I was actually thinking about all the possible ways she can get hurt in softball vs cheer.  Sliding into base, getting hit by a bat, getting hit by a ball, running....

I guess she does need a valid excuse for the brain damage Wink LOL

Good for SD being involved in softball. Hopefully this will turn out better than cheer and she may get better the more she plays. It's great that she's active & involved in a sport and hope she continues.

Siempremathari,  I also do hope she improves and likes it, but given her history in sports we are more likely to hear about an injury that prevents her from finishing the season rather than improvement.  I hope she proves me wrong for once Wink
