OT- My boss the idiot

Simpleton21's picture

I live in OH.  All schools are online.  Restaurants and bars are closed.  Last week my idiot boss was considering letting additional people come work from our facility if the base closed down.  I work in govt contracting.  That was his first idiot thought.  News/president/health officials/bascially everyone "no crowds over 100, limit social contact" = to my idiot boss "lets bring more people into the office"  WTF?!?! Ugh!  I had a bad cough/cold and he still expected me to come shut down the building (b/c no one wants to work until 6 and even after telling him several times I'll need a better back up plan he has not put that in place.  Then someone from one of the teams already here was "experiencing concerning symptoms" and so his idiot self finally decides to take things seriously and let teams work from home.  I will also say that everyone in the facility has had the ability to telework long before this crisis so it wasn't a matter of how to set that up.

Yesterday was a ghost town b/c most people choose to work from home.  I could have but would have had to come in and close so might as well be in the office.  Everyone was gone by 4:00 yesterday so that was nice.  Then my corporate office (in Alaska) sends out a memo to all offsite locations "NO VISITORS IN OFFSITE FACILITIES" for undetermined length of time.  Great!  Now idiot boss can't have extra people come work from our facility like he wanted to.  Today I figured that we would be leaving early again seeing as there were only a handful of people here but nope.  I just did my end of day stuff at 5 like normal and idiot boss is having a freaking MEETING with a VISITOR....WTF!?!?! This idiot man infuriates me with his lack of concern for his employees and not following procedures.

Just needed to rant/vent!

I am working from home (for now) because my daycare is closed. My boss and everyone at my work thinks this virus is being blown out of proportion and being exaggerated. Nearly all employees have WFH capability. But, everyone is expected to be in the office, with only special considerations made.

It is only a matter of time before it will not be allowed for me, probably sooner than later. She has already suggested I switch to her daycare (that is still open). It is a lot more per week and pretty far from home (for a toddler to commute 2x a day). Also, not the type of facility I would choose.

Ugh.

Bright side, I have 2 places courting me to come work for them. I will be ok to tell them to shove it, if needed.

Ugh, my idiot boss and his idiot visitors think the same thing.  I'm about to walk past their meeting coughing heavily and not covering my mouth, lol!  I don't even care if it is being blown out of proportion.  When things like schools and restaurants are closing it should be taken seriously!!!!

WTF!?!? I would politely suggest that she then pays the extra amount to take your child to another center...who does that?!?! How do they even think that is okay to make that suggestion.

I would def be looking into those other work places.  Unfortunately I make good money here and have great benefits so despite looking I haven't found a better job yet Sad

My oldest works at a hospital, it is not being exaggerated. They are worn thin and supplies are low. They are being issued one mask PER 12HR SHIFT! Masks are supposed to be a one use item.

I agree it should be taken seriously!  Luckily I have my own private office that I am sticking too and using plenty of hand sanitizer and cleaning my office daily.  I'm annoyed with how lightly my boss is taking it though Sad

Oh Simpleton I feel you, I work on a base and most people are working from home at this point.  But I support customers so we can't work from home.  It's frustrating especially when my boss and project lead don't agree and I'm like WTF guess I'll work until we are forced to stay home and use leave.

It is annoying how they force some to stay in the office.  I imagine it will come down to a shut down before I start teleworking.  I can't complain to much though because at least while teleworking I will still get paid and not have to use PTO.

someone in our office building had a vendor on site last week that has since tested positive.  small meeting in a room on a different floor.. but there are shared areas where these people would have come into the office... escalator or elevator touching... also potentially infecting the meeting participants who then had access to the whole building for another week.  I know it's unlikely that a lot of people were exposed.. not sure who thought it would be a genius idea to bring in a vendor that likely travels widely..even if it is only domestically.. lots of chances for contact in airports etc... ugh

we now are all to work remotely if at all possible.

Ugh, yes, we have not been having anyone outside of reg staff come in except the janitorial crew and they come after hours.  People are not being smart about this situation at all.

My DH did work at a hospital he was terminated a little over a week ago due to their stupid point system.  I'm looking that as a blessing in disguise at this point because if he was still working there he would have a much better chance of being exposed to the virus.

shocking!  not.  there is no backup plan for my job even though my people work 24/7.  when i'm out they just let my work pile up with zero attempt to even try to help out.

we were told we would be alternating WFH.  most of tgwe rest of the employees are remote now

Simpleton21's picture

Yeah, it isn't shocking, lol!  My boss doesn't think about things unless it directly affects him negatively.

Of course everyone is working remote but you.  Alternating WFH would be nice.

I work for a large company is run by a woman CEO and she is amazing. We are mandatory WFH until 4/1 at corporate and sales. We are taking it seriously, our plant's have strict rules no visitors , they have to take their temps before coming in.

I feel for all of the people who are not as fortunate to work for companies that care and have common sense and who have prepared for something like this.

I have MS and will be staying put until this mess  is over.

That is amazing.  Crazy how logical and caring women can be ;)  My boss is male!  I think he lacks the logic gene.  My corporate office is at least taking it seriously but they are across country!

Common sense isn't very common!

I am glad you are able to stay safe Smile

I work at a hospital, in the private ward.  All of our procedures are elective.  As all elective surgeries have been cancelled for the next 3 months, all private hospitals will become isolation wards.  All of the higher ups are working at home but that doesn't include the front line staff who are required to be in.  All medical, catering and cleaning staff will be required to come in and work.

Consider yourself lucky that you can keep earning your wage AND doing it from home.  None of us will lose our jobs or wages but some of the least paid citizens in countries around the world will be put at risk.  Medical, security, housekeeping, catering, pharmicists, food store employees.  What is now considered dangerous for most will be a requirement and necessity for others.

Simpleton21's picture

Sorry to hear that coooookies!  I do feel for those that are forced to be put at risk.  My DH worked in EVS (housekeeping) at a hospital here but was terminated about a week ago, right before they started shutting stuff down, while I'm frustrated about the loss of income I also think it is a blessing in disguise because he would have been forced to be there as well.

I know I shouldn't complain to much and I am fortunate to have limited exposure risk.  I'm just annoyed that my boss doesn't seem to be taking this seriously!

Cooooookies's picture

Yeah your boss is definitely an idiot.  He should be taking it seriously.  It might be a blessing in disguise though that your DH was terminated.  I myself have been sent in twice to rooms that had a possible contamination yet no other employee would touch.  Give your DH extra cuddles for sure Smile

Simpleton21's picture

I wish he was taking it more seriously.  Just got word about the first confirmed case in the county right next to mine.  They have testing centers set up so I am sure that when results are in there will be more confirmed cases.  That is scary that you have already had to go into possibly contaminated rooms :(  I am happy that my DH is not at the hospital working anymore.  I'll try to give him extra cuddles.
