Boogers on my furniture... again

We've been struggling with SD15 wiping boogers on our sofa and walls for years. Each time DH makes her clean it and usually gives her another punishment also. She stops long enough that we stop checking behind her. It's been about a 9 month booger-free streak until today. I'm so annoyed and she is WAY too old to be doing this still. She has even wiped boogers on the couch when the box of tissues was literally 4 inches away on the side table.

She's only here every other weekend which makes consequences difficult. I'm also disengaged and let DH handle these things. But this is my house too and my furniture too. I need it to stop ASAP.

This is disgusting, and I'm sorry, but I would not have someone in my home who was deliberately doing this. She knows better.

I would put them all on her pillow, along with some extra of my own.

I caught SS15 doing this a couple times. I'd tell him to just wipe them off a few times. After that I told him that he'd be wiping the booger up and cleaning the entire thing he put it on. Which was a wall and my dining room table. I would have made him scrub the entire wall from top to bottom and all of the table and six chairs.

He thought better of it and stopped. Maybe your SD works like my SS...make doing what is right easier than being punished. If the punishment is far more work, then he does what he's supposed to do. As getting up, grabbing a tissue and wiping the booger in the tissue was far less effort and time than scrubbing an entire wall or polishing a table and six chairs.

All about making it easier to do what is right than taking the shortcut that will end up costing them more time and energy.

This girl in 15. Very strange behavior for a girl this age. No manners. Gross. I would say something to her. Like you said this is your home to.

We experienced dh's kids (teens) wiping poop and also mucus on our walls.

We know why they did it.

"Hey, SD, that's MY couch you're sitting on, and I don't appreciate you wiping your snots on it - if I catch you again, I'm going to start wiping MY snots on YOUR stuff. If you insist on picking your nose elsewhere than a bathroom, use a tissue, because it's disgusting and unsanitary."

And if DH had ANYTHING AT ALL to say about it, it had better be "she's right, use a tissue."
