Strangest thing

Sh413's picture

So the strangest thing happen and according to Husbad it's not the first time. SS 10 told husband while talking about a dog " oh yeah remember you bought my mom jacks (their dog) because she was sad her cat died" Husband confused " says I didny buy that dog?" SS then says yeah my mom told me, and husband says I think your confused that dog is like 15 convo ends.
My husband later brings it up to me and says what was that? Isn't that fucking weird? That dog was around before I even met her" He explains to me it's not the first time SS told him about a story his mom told him involving his mom and my husband that never happened and he's kinda of weirded out.

My thought was maybe the kid is making it up to have a story about them, since he never saw them together, they weren't married and relationship ended quickly. But he is very intelligent and his response when corrected on the story was veryyy sure that this is what his mom said.  I don't understand the reasons? Why make a kid nostalgic about something that he didn't experience, they were never married and she married while he was quite young and has been raised by them in a different state calling his step dad " his dad" since he can remember.

I dunno it seems odd to be giving the kid these stories to make him feel what?

My guess is she creates pleasant fantasies for him.  About all you can do is what your DH is doing: factually set the record straight with no drama or judgement of BM.  I agree, it's weird and sad.

You are probably right, doesn't seem like it would cause positive feelings for him but I guess it's not my place.

Kids who have no memories of their parents together sometimes make up strange mythologies about this time. If a BM encourages it then they can get even weirder. Sometimes my SD will make comments about pictures like they are her memories. Like "I remember being a baby and you taking that picture!"  Ugh... No...

This seems very common, BMs here planting memories to manage perception.

My YSS said he remembers when he was born and how mean the nurses were to BM in the hospital. Uh-huh.

Thanks for all the insight appears to be more normal than we thought. I spoke with husband and he doesn't like it one bit, he said he doesn't appreciate the past not only being manipulated but completely made up, he thinks this would only cause SS to harbor feelings over a fantasy life.

Communication w/her is minimum so I wonder if he will even bring it up.

My SS is delusional and hallucinates so he makes up weird memories on his own. He would be adamant that stuff I bought myself were bought by his mom. Haven't figured out if he did it intentionally to push my buttons or he really believed it.  So glad I dont have to hear his ignorant comments anymore.

This has happened in our household too.  It is bizarre, and my only guess is to make sure that their BM is still somehow relevant to your DH.  Proof that he loved her.  It is all about managing the perception of the stepkids.
