A milestone weekend for our family and a great time.

Though the week was challenging, DW and did take PTO on Friday and enjoyed a nice weekend with my brother and my SIL.

Friday was our parent's 61st anniversary.  We had a nice telephone visit with mom and dad and congratulated them on their anniversary.

My brother and my SIL arrived late Thursday night.  On Friday we had lunch at  Gordon Ramsey's Hells Kitchen.  We enjoyed our day and our later lunch was amazing.

On Saturday we had some outdoor and off road adventure at the Desert While Life Refuge before heading home and preparing for dinner at Giada.

It was a gourmet celebrity Chef weekend.

The ladies did some shopping, my brother and I had some good discussions and bonding time.

This AM, Sunday, my brother and my SIL left mid morning to check into the Belagio, have their couples Spa morning, then get ready for Garth Brooks tonight.

I am so proud of my COO little brother.  He is a truly good man and my life long person.  Life changed when mom and dad brought him home from the hospital when I was 6yo.

We also had about a 2hr visit with SS-30 after my brother left this AM.  He missed promotion to E-7 by half a point.  His board notified him that his current leadership role should close that half a point gap for next years boards.  He is extremely self aware and has been telling his mom and I that he is not ready to be at that level quite yet.  As usual... he is very perceptive when it comes to these things.

As for why the week was challenging.... I had a retinal hemorrhage in my Rt eye sometime Monday night. I could not safely drive on Tuesday. I had a second Hemorrhage mid afternoon on Tuesday. I was able to get a Opthalmologist appointment for Wed AM.  The Doc injected some meds in my eye and we set up a pre-op appointment for early July to give the meds time to facilitate healing of the retinal tissue.  Next will be an actual surgery which I will schedule for shortly after our return from our 29th anniversay trip.

The surgery is likely not going to be particularly pleasant though according to the Surgeon it should improve my vision and address the repeat bleeds.  The vitreous will be removed from my eye, scar tissue removed and replacement vitreous injected into my eye.   Recovery could be anything from a few days to a few weeks.  The worst recovery being having a gas bubble injected into my eye to hold everything in place and then having to be on my stomach looking down 24/7 for two weeks.  Hopefully I get something less than the wort recovery experience.

I had Tues and Wed as sick days. I worked Thursday though with a raging headache due to vision strain.  I never take sick days so my team was worried about me.  I have had several calls and message check ins from my team this weekend.  That was comforting.

I hope everyone had a good weekend and next week is good as well.

Regards,

Rags

Sounds like a good weekend.  Congrats to your parents!

I had retinal surgery in November and was initially advised I'd have the same 2 weeks on my stomach.  Later, this was eased to, if I remember, not sleeping on my back for awhile.  So, things might not be as drastic as they sound.  Good luck!

My dad had the gas bubble after surgery for a detached retina. He was initially told a couple weeks, but it ended up not even being a full week of face down.  I don't know if your surgery is anything like his,  but I'll be sending quick healing vibes.

Eye stuff freaks me out. Idk why but I'd literally rather see a gynecologist, lmao (sorry Rags).

Glad to hear you had some positives to help lessen the impact of the issue.

a man. Lol.

Eye procedures are blood pressure bombs, even when it is something you have had several times previously and know it is not that bad.   Seeing a hand holding a needle coming toward yoru eye... is not something that I can get used to. Even when I know that ultimately the result will be a benefit.

Thanks for the empathy.

My mom had two eye surgeries with the gas bubble.  Get a massage chair.  The kind they use to give a back massage.  You can adjust the headrest so you can look down  put a tablet or mirror under you and you can watch tv or look at someone.  Your neck and back will get stiff so be prepared for that.   Good luck with the surgery.

So sorry about the eye stuff! I keep putting off cataract surgery because I'm such a big baby, and that sounds super easy compared to what you are going to have to do.

Your family weekend sounds lovely. Hope your brother enjoyed Garth - he always puts on a great show.

I advise that you not wait.  Injections and Retinopathy LASER procedures were not too bad.  The eye clamp to hold your eye open is worse than the actual procedures.

At least in my experience.

I will let you know how the scar removal procedure goes.

The weekend was great.  My brother is an outstanding guy. I am blessed to have him.  They loved Garth.  Now I have to get tickets for my wife and I to see him.
