Dirt bags need to just be shot.

Had a long day.  My first major facility turn around since starting my new role.  Worked 12 hours today, everything went great.  I have a great team.

Left the facility, stopped at Cracker Barrel for dinner, finished dinner, walked to the parking lot to drive to my suite hotel.  Opened the drivers door, the passenger window is shattered, my pack is gone including my work laptop.  My Rx sun glasses and my backup daily wear glasses were in the bag... and ... my 1Terrabyte backup drive with 35 years of my career work product on it.

Yep, the only copy of all of that work.

I hate dirt bags and am a firm believer that abortion should be applied retrocactively to rid the planet of these types of people.

Have a great weekend gang.

Rags, I am bummed for you, having your property broken into & stolen. Thieves who probably cannot imagine how satisfying it is to work & build up skill, knowledge, training & education. I hope yout 1T drive is recovered!

Oh NO!!  Rags, that sucks! Did you make the report? I hope they can find the, the place likely has security cameras in the parking lot.  That is something you can never recover (Backup) and it can cause a LOT of issues to have your work laptop stolen too.

I almost never left my work laptop in the car-if I did it was under a seat or covered very well in my SUV.  When I had a sedan it was the trunk. Places that I felt sketchy -or just uneasy-which was my paranoid self most of the time, I'd just drag it all in with me in a briefcase or my large purse/computer bag.I would often take it in with me to a gas station to not leave it unattended.  Doesn't help you know I know.   I am hoping they can recover this for you Rags.

The restaurant did catch the incident on their security cameras.

I have not yet heard from the police.  The laptop was replaced within a few hours by IT on Monday AM.  Having only been with the company a month, I didn't lose much new work product.  I do have a second external drive that has most of what was lost with my primary backup.

I did have a couple of sad epiphanies though.  My Granddad's Masonic ring and my Mont Blanc pen were in my planner.  Both were of course irreplaceable.  The ring for obvious reasons and the pen was an engraved personal fifer from a last boss.

I got lazy.  So I certainly own the event.  I usually put my bag in the trunk for security, I changed that routine for a couple of days and it bit me in the butt.
