SD14 says I'm to old to play guitar

porcelian-doll's picture

A dear friend of mine is helping me restore and spray paint and old guitar I got at an garage sale. I have cooled off on my pregnancy blues and I want to focus on restoring this guitar to that I can play and sing to my unborn child. I have been playing acoustic guitar for 11 years but I haven't played in a about a year or so and I'm kind of rusty. But I want to practice so that when my child is born I can sing by their crib and play sweet lullabies for them. everyone tells me I have a really soft nice singing voice.

SD14 thought I was restoring the guitar for her and when I said it was for me she told me I was to old to play guitar. I'm 28 going on 29 and I thought this could be something special to share with my beacon of love that is one they way.
What are your thoughts am I to old to play guitar?

^^^^^^^^ THIS! EXACTLY! She wanted hte guitar. She made the mistake of thinking it was for her and when she was told it was not for her she lashed out because 1. She felt stupid for assuming it was for her. 2. She wanted it.

Tell that to Ronnie Wood, he is in his 60s.

ps. In case you don't know, he is with the Rolling Stones.

Don't let that SD play with your head. No you're not too old. In fact I think it's a great idea and something baby and you will enjoy. My niece sings to her tummy now and she's not due until end of August.

Twenty-eight too old to play guitar Biggrin What a small world that 14 year old lives in inside her young little head. Play, sing, enjoy yourself.

Hey - when I was 18 I remember thinking that my boyfriend's older brother was dating someone really OLD - she was 25.

You're not too old to play the guitar. DH is 44 and plays his acoustic almost every night. When I was pregnant with DS3, DH was playing a lullaby and that was the very first time I felt DS kick. I cried because it was so sweet.

Your SD is jealous. Plain and simple. Restore your guitar and play lullaby's for your sweet baby.

Even if you are rusty, I'm sure you would sound beautiful especially singing to your baby. Let the mean words from your SD who likely might be feeling jealous in one ear and out the other. I hope that her dad had a talk with her and that he will put an end to that.

She is14 and not to be relied on for making sense. ......perhaps include her as I guess u would if she was your own daughter. ..

Start telling her she is too young for random things. She wants to watch TV, YOU ARE TOO YOUNG, she wants to eat ice cream, sorry you are too young... go to the bathroom? NOPE, too young. LMAO, I would have fun with this!

And by the way, from the way that you have described yourself in the past. I picture you looking exactly like your avatar. Now I picture you looking like your avatar, sitting on a stool next to your sweet babies crib singing sweet lullabies.

Do NOT listen to your SD. My mother started playing when she was 24 or so. Some of my fondest memories are of her singing us to sleep, while playing her acoustic guitar.

Carry on with your plans. Tell your SD to f**k off.

I think that if this kid is so troubled that she's getting arrested, she needs counseling and hopefully dh will get her some, on top of providing her parenting, love and support. This kid desperately needs confidence and to learn how to develop it in herself-hopefully dh will help her on that path. The more confidence she has in herself means less rude comments to you.

You should say, "sd, nobody is ever too old to learn new things. If you want to learn a new hobby, you should absolutely do it. There's no time like the present."

Hi were around the same age. I play piano with baby on my lap banging the keys. I can just picture you singing by your baby's bedside. You seem like you would make such a sweet mother. Don't let your SD get to you mabey one day if she learns how to act like a decent human being you could get her a guitar and teach her a few things.

((Hugs)).

What a stupid twit! Your Never too old to do something you love or would like to try until your body gives out and doesn't permit you.

She is just jealous you didn't get the guitar for her. Though I hope you don't think I am speaking out of line to suggest maybe her dad get a decent guitar from a pawn shop and maybe you can bond over teaching her how to play? I can't remember your entire back story but just thought Id throw that out there.

I know sometimes music can do.what nothing else can to help bring people together in my opinion. So maybe its a good thing she has interest in something you do?
