Just curious how many on here have a non-traditional ring? By that I mean not all diamonds?

Maybe I'm just weird but for some reason I dont' want an old diamond ring. BF and I were talkign about it a couple weeks ago and he was tryign to ask what I even like...I've always liked sapphires, love them, and they are my birthstone also...I think they look amazing on a ring and woudl prefer that a million times over.

My question is, to others that went that route-of another gemstone...how do you still feel about it now? Are you still happy with it? Is it hard sometimes when you are dressing up if the 'blue' or other color doesn't go w/the color jewelery or clothes you have on? What were some of people reactions? Did they look down on you/him because of his choice (even if it was your preference)....because it included a gemstone instead of an all diamond ring? Just curious.

I have a sapphire engagement ring. I picked it out, I love it. I have never thought about or worried about whether the ring will match what I'm wearing. I also don't care what folks think about it not being a diamond, I love it.

I also have a sapphire, but in my 1st marriage I had a white opal - they are supposed to be bad luck - I paid no attention to this - maybe I should have!

No diamonds in mine at all. Knowing I'm not very traditional in jewelry, DH found a garnet in an antique Celtic setting. I love my ring and it's different from what every other married woman in my company has on her finger. In my department alone, which is only 8 people, two of the married women have identical wedding rings. One is just bigger than the other. I get a lot of satisfaction knowing DH picked out a ring to match what I like rather than what is popular. Smile

My first wedding ring was beautiful with emeralds and a single diamond. Emerald was my birth stone. I loved that ring and it went fine with everything I wore. I never took it off.

This time around I wanted a traditional solitaire ring that has just a princess cut diamond. I wanted all the money spent on the stone. I love it because it has clean simple lines.

I loved my first ring and had it re-sized to fit my right hand after my husband died. It looked like a nice cocktail ring. I am saving it for my son to give to his wife as is, or if he wants he can have it re-done. But, it will save him a fortune and have sentimental attachment. If she doesn't like the emeralds, I will take them back and have it re-done into something else.

Do what you want, you have to wear it. I like the originality of not using the traditional diamond.

My FDH had my ring designed for me by a jeweler, because I really didn't want one at all. I'm not big into traditional jewelry; I like individualized, artistic stuff. I told him I wanted the proposal, but not the ring. He said he couldn't propose without a ring, so we compromised. He used blue and green sapphires in white gold done together in a Celtic knot design. It's beautiful, and I couldn't be happier that it's not a traditional ring.

But that's me!

My ring is a sapphire that is tension-set. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31hR0uuc1fL._SL160_SS160_.jpg. I specifically asked for a tension set ring that didn't cost too much, because I am horribly forgetful and didn't want to feel bad when I lose it. I also wear it as my wedding ring because it was too thick to really pair with another ring. I love that the stone is flush with the metal so I don't scratch people and things all the time.

In my first marriage I had a heart-shaped ruby (my birthstone) with diamonds set in yellow gold. I loved the ring, but did find myself noticing that it didn't always go with what I wore. I don't know that it was so much the ruby that bothered me as much as the yellow gold. it!

Mine is a yellow diamond, with 2 white diamonds on either side, so it's a little different
