Kitty Update

over step's picture

Just got back from vet #2 with good and not so good news.

Vet tested for feline leukemia which came back negative. However we still don't know for sure what is wrong other than it's neurological. Causes could be bacteria or a tumor.

Vet gave her 2 antibiotics and a steriod just in case it's bacteria but that appears to be a hopeful long shot. Can't start steroids until Friday because of the medicine vet #1 gave her. Can't mix the two so have to wait for other medicine to get out of kitty's system.

I am numb yet again. I think I pretty much have my answer. Glad I found a vet that is about making her quality of life her priority as it is mine.

Thinking I will have another night of crying myself asleep.

Awweee, honey I'm so sorry you're going through this. I lost two kitties in a bad way that were quite a bite younger than yours.

I'm glad you found a good vet.

Hang in here and just give kitty lots a love. Wink

I don't think I've ever cheered for bacteria, but I am today!

As you know, my Sheba is the light of my life. She's 17 and I know "that" day is coming.

I'm going to keep cheering for bacterial infection. Give Kitty a snuggle from me. And from Sheba.

When I get back in her good graces I will for sure. She is pretty mad at me for taking her to the vet again, had to have blood drawn and given nasty medicine. I'm on the list.

Yeah-I'm afraid you are on the list.

She's probably giving you the evil stare of death and the kitty side eye every chance she gets

I'm so very sorry you and your furbaby are having such a rough time.

I lost my bengal (cat) baby (okay, he was 18) nearly a year ago. I think about him every day. He was a special guy and got me through many rough days.

I sincerely hope it's only a bacterial infection and she heals quickly.

Baby food. I know it sounds weird but my bengal loved chicken and rice baby food. Smile

So sorry, wishing you good thoughts. I have two cats I love dearly, going on 10 years now and one with kidney issues (I baby him like no ones business and everyone adores him). Always have had pets and it never gets easier...but those pets we have have the BEST lives!

Just walking and balance. Vets have both said she is otherwise in good shape for her age.

Well she seems to be more active today. Not sleeping as much. Still not getting around the greatest but really trying. Had her 1st of 2 doses of steroids this morning. She will have 3rd dose of antibiotics and 2nd dose of steriods tonight. I'm happy she's acting like she feels better. Not getting my hopes up too high but feeling more relieved.

well lucky furball, that one!

my drain-bramaged kitty could NOT handle liquid meds, he'd foam them up. i tried pills in treats - he couldnt do that either!!! he'd actually gag and spit out a mangled mess. he was much better with my fingers in the corners of his mouth holding open, and just dropping them down his throat.

poor baby knew when he needed his meds early, he'd come find me and tell me. if i he didnt know to do that, he would have died (meds kept his lungs from collapsing).

i'm glad miss kitty takes them with treats - all she knows about it is that she's one spoiled rotten kitteh!

Thank you all for the words of encouragement and support. Hoping for the best and preparing for the worst while still processing it all.
