Happy Birthday, SS!

Woohoo! Today is my stepson’s eleventh birthday!

I was looking through some old pictures of him, and I can’t believe how quickly he’s grown. He’s always been a quiet, introverted kid but this year he’s really reached out and made some solid friendships. We invited his buddies over for a surprise sleepover over the weekend, and it was so eye-opening to watch him interact with his friends. He is really turning into a wonderful, considerate young man.

It's nice to read stories like yours.

My guess is both your dh and his ex are both mentally healthy adults.

We had our share of tough times. The first two years that I dated DH, BM and her husband were incredibly high conflict. But eventually, everyone came to their senses. We’ve had some ups and downs, but for the most part, we’ve had about six years of peace and civility.

I was actually looking at SS’s phone last night, and saw that BM had added ICE (in case of emergency) to my contact information. I remember when she threatened to file kidnapping charges because I offered to pick SS up from the babysitter. I appreciate these small things, because it really is a sign of how far we’ve all come.
