O/T - Fire HD Tablet for Kids

So totally off topic, but DH and I have been wanting to get SD a kids tablet. She has been using for the last couple of years my iPad that is a couple generations old now. Well today I randomly looked them up on Amazon and the Fire 8 is now $70 instead of $140 and if you want the Fire 10 it is now $140 instead of $200. So we just ordered SD one since it is such a deal! Just wanted to share in case anyone else has been thinking about buying them for their children. I was so excited because last weekend when we looked it was full price.

We had the Amazon Fire Kids tablet for SS back in the day and we just bought one for DD so she can watch Sesame Street during long car rides. They are a great bang for the buck!

Please tell me you are not letting SD take it home. We bought SS an Amazon Kids tablet when BM moved him out of state in 2017. He was 6. We bought the kids case and everything. We preloaded Skype on it and added DH's contact so he could easily call DH, and showed SS how to use it. We even paid for the Amazon FreeTime subscription service to enable kid friendly content and parental controls. We sent it home with SS to BM's. He had the tablet for 3 weeks, only used it to Skype us once, and then BM emailed saying it broke. When we asked SS about it later, SS said BM took it away immediately when he got home and wouldnt let him use it, and then later claimed it "broke." We found out a year later that BM sold it on Marketplace. Don't waste your money to send something nice like that to BMs.

SD's iPad because that is what we do for long car rides for her too or for her to do her ABC Mouse on, etc. It still works, but like I said it is an older generation so eventually it is not going to work so well with newer apps. I was so happy today to see it on such a sale. I texted DH and I told him about it and his response "get it now." Hahaha, so clearly he felt the same way as me about taking advantage of such a sale especially when SD hasn't even been here a week.

OH heck no it is not going to BM's! I would love if we could send something nice like that for SD, but we all know that would be a terrible idea. That is just awful that BM sold it! OMG, we would be PISSED. The fire we got her is for ages 6-12 and since she is just turning 6, it will be of use for many years when we have her which is awesome!

We probably will send some shoes and clothes with SD to BM's that we know won't fit because we don't get SD again until Spring Break, but really other than something small for the plane we are okay with never seeing again, we don't send anything to BM's until SD is older and can be responsible for it.

We got the Fire for Kids tablets for my SDs when they were 2 and 4 and they got a ton of use out of them. They still have them nearly 5 years later. One of them was broken shortly before the warranty expired (younger SD jumped on older SD's tablet) and it was promptly replaced, no questions asked. The Free Time subscription had lots of educational stuff they enjoyed, too.

It is supposed to already be here tomorrow which means she will get to use it the whole visit, so pretty pumped about that!

But my DH got a fire years ago as a leaving present from a job when they first came out.  It might have been 2012.

It still works fine.  We don't use it often but it is great for holidays.  I'm going to load it full of stuff to watch before our epic train journey this holiday.

The Fire for Kids is a regular Fire tablet with a really sturdy case, a 2 year guarantee that covers anything and everything, and a 1 year subscription to Amazon's FreeTime content.  You pay extra for the kid-proofing (i.e., case and guarantee). Otherwise it's just like your DH's tablet.

The point I was (badly) trying to make is that the Fire is good value for money and lasts.

Definitely don't want to spend money on something that is going to stop working well within a year especially when we are at a long distance schedule
