for things to ask during our upcoming conference with SD's teacher? We plan on asking if there is any indication or concern if SD has a learning disability. We also plan on asking what she and her team feels is causing SD to not improve at the rate she should be.

Just wondering if there is anything else we should be asking that we are not thinking of.

If the teacher indicates a possible learning disability, ask for resources for testing and ask what the process is to implement an IEP or a 504. Ask what reasonable accommodations can be provided to SD if a learning disability is present like additional time for testing, fidget breaks, smaller/less assignments, pass/fail opportunities instead of traditional letter based grading, resource room and push in special education support, etc.

If they indicate that it is an environmental issue (i.e. lack of follow through at BM's) ask what can be done on your end to help SD catch up. Ask what key areas/benchmarks need to be focused on. Ask about SD's best learning style - is she a visual learner, a tactile learner or an auditory learner? Ask if there are online resources like ABC Mouse or something that SD can do with you virtually to help her catch up. Also, ask what SD is doing well, because maybe some things are clicking and you can use that information to improve the things that aren't. What motivates SD in class?

My mom had actually suggested ABC Mouse too.

Definitely need to figure out if it is a learning issue or an environmental issue for sure

I had to flat out ask after a couple of comments if the teacher thought my son might have ADD. She said she wasn't legally allow to say or advise but if she were me, she would have an assessment done.

My son is HIGHLY intelligent and "gifted", top of his class, all super advanced classes. He is a sophomore and only has 4 credits left to graduate. He has ADD. He NEEDS meds to focus. His brain is on hyper drive all the time. That teacher gave us a huge gift because without her comment I wouldn't have realized because he isn't hyper active. He isn't a typical ADHD kid.

I will add to our list to ask if she thinks SD needs an assessment done to see if I can get what she really thinks without compromising what she is allowed to say or not.
