I'm starting to hate Federal Holidays

SO and I work for the Air Force and as such we get a lot of the same holidays as the Skids off of work.

19 Jan is MLK day. We have it off and I'm assuming that Skids do too. The problem is that EVERYtime the school has a holiday, we keep the Skids even though they days are actually BM's. (She NEVER wants them)

After having them for 13 straight days during Christmas Break and SS being a total jerk, I calmly had the following conversation with SO about MLK Day

ME: If you plan on keeping Skids an extra day for the holiday can you please drop them off back with BM around noon instead of 6pm so that I can have a little time off too.

SO: Well, I think they are better off with us because she just leaves them with EXSS15 every night (she works in a bar). .....Long rant about how horrible EXSS15 is

Me: I know this, that is why I thought we could compromise. They stay one extra night with us instead of EXSS15 but they go home to BM at noon.

SO: Well, we will just have to see.

I didn't say anything else after that. I was pissed. I thought I was giving a good compromise. If BM wants to leave Skids with her shitty 15yr old, too bad. I shouldn't have to give up every single minute of my time off.

Unfortunately for SO, I have a plan. I have every other Friday off and I always pick Skids up from school. That means my day off is really a half day off because I get them around 1:30-2. If SO fails to compromise with me, I will have to decline to pick up Skids for the next few weeks. He will have to drive an extra hr to pick them up from BM and won't get home until around 5:30. There's my extra time.

That's what I thought. I hate that our life is structured around her shitty decisions.

The funny thing is the reason I even thought about MLK day was because I read your post about the extra days. Biggrin

Um, excuse me, but this is NOT YOUR problem. And what about the other nights of the week?? If your DH is so truly, terribly concerned about this, then I should think he would be fighting for full custody. To me this just reads as a lame excuse to not stand up to BM, while putting you last on the list.

Find a nice local hotel to spend the MLK holiday in. Bring lots of wine, chocolate and a good book.
