OT - Students riot at middle school

morrginme's picture

Over the weekend 60-70 students rioted on staff and sheriff deputies who responded to the middle school basketball game in Vancouver, WA.

From my personal opinion this situation comes as no surprise to me. It feels like a more extreme version of what I see in my own home almost every day. Kids disrespecting authority and parents saying their kid would never do that they have a great kid. If my SD was there I'm sure she would have been one of those kids right in the middle of it then denying she was part of it.

This entire thing started when a child who wasnt allowed to be there was told to leave. The other students got upset and surrounded school staff. The sheriff was called and the 3 responding deputies had to call for back up as the large group of students then surrounded them while hurling racial slurs and death threats. Over 30 more officers responded and one was injured. 9 students were arrested.

These kids probably felt justified and entitled to act this way. A few might of gotten swept up in the mob mentality but they still made the choice to become part of it. I'm sure some of these parents will be suing the school and police. I'm interested in hearing how this all turns out.

Don't lik eyour own actions then sue someone. It's ridiculous as he!!. If there's a riot, the police officers are DOING THEIR JOBS to stop it.

But hey, your kid wouldn't do that. Yours was an innocent bystander, so let's go ahead and put the blame on somebody else.

The lack of responsibiilty and accountability placed on humans who do terrible things and things they shouldn't really disgusts me. It's the people that do the terrible actions that should be blamed, not the ones doing their job to stop it, or a third party who wasn't even involved. Because lately I've seen both blamed in the news.
