Pittsburghese n’at… ya know?!?

Moon Child Step Mom's picture

This brought a much needed smile today... thought I'd share...

So I’m sitting here at work today and a fellow Pittsburgh ex-patriot came in to interview and we started jiving in our native language of Pittsburghese… n for yinz that don’t be knowin, it’s the dialect of American English spoken by many residents of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and surrounding Western Pennsylvania… ya’know? It’s a mish-match of Pennsylvania German or Scots-Irish… I don’t know… but it’s distinctly weird and instantly recognizable to anyone who grew up there.

And I got reeeeeeeeeeal homesick.

And flippin Katy Perry’s “California Girls” was on the radio for about the 400th time today… so what do two displaced Yinzers do on a Wednesday afternoon…?

Write “Pittsburgh Grrrls” of course!!!
If anyone can decipher this mess I’ll buy you a coke! Wink

I have several friends from Pittsburgh and they definitely talk like this! hahahaha. I love it. When they got married out here on the West Coast, tons of their family and friends came out from "The Burgh" and they were all such fun people. And yes....they certainly love their Steelers!
