Privacy??

mommy_of_4's picture

In our home, we stand firm on our beliefs that this is OUR home. If our children have email accounts or facebook, which SD13 does, we have their passwords and yes I do check them. I also go through their rooms every so often.
I saw online there is a New jersey officer who pushes parents into invading their childs privacy.
I have heard SOOO many parents say "my kids tell me EVERYTHING". Really? I think people who believe that are completely naive.
When SD17, was 14 we learnt way to much about her and not from her telling us. It totally shocked daddy cause he thought she was so perfect and so sweet and innocent. But those of us who truly pay attention to our kids and the skids, can generally tell when something about them changes. SD17, then 14 totally changed. Just different things that i had picked up on. Of course DH never noticed a thing except that she was still so perfect.
When a child KNOWS that daddy thinks they are just perfect, there is no way in hell they are going to come out and tell them all the nasty shit they are doing.
As long as my kids or the SKIDS live in OUR house, we will do what we have to to know what they are up to. And when they are caught doing something completely inappropriate then they will suffer the consequences.

So feel free to judge me now....

I agree-anyone in my home is not entitled to privacy. SS has a facebook account but got it after he stopped visiting so I dont have his password. If he ever wishes to use it in this house he will have to pony it up someday. I also randomly go thru his bags which totally pisses him off. I go thru them when he's outside and he comes in and starts going off about how someone went thru his stuff-I just sit there and go about my business never saying a word. I know that he knows its me and I also know he knows there is nothing he can do about it.

Unless you're paying the rent or mortgage, you're not entitled to privacy in my opinion. Sometimes violating skids (and own kids) privacy is the only way to get the unvarnished truth!

My YSD pissed me off about snooping around our personal stuff once, so I put spyware on our home computer so I could keep an eye on what she was posting on-line, etc, and the OSD had the nerve to call and chewed my DH out because "it was illegal" and "I had no business doing that on HIS computer".

DUH bitch, it's OUR HOUSE, OUR RULES.

Cracks me up really how stupid and ignorant these adult brats really are.

Its not illegal. Its your computer, in your home. I told my husband yesterday actually, that if I ever found out that one of the kids went snooping through my things, they better hope he is here to protect them because I will snap. I earned my right to have my privacy and ain't no kid going to invade it. my husband doesn't even touch my things.

My sisters SD13 had removed her from friend list so asked if I could check in once in a while. It was typical crap at first the. Suddenly her relationship status changed so I snooped a bit. She was supposedly dating a 23 year old from Egypt! They were gushing about loving and missing each other! Now if it was a boy her own age ok but reading some of thier posts and thinking a grown man was telling a child these things was down right creepy! I struggled breifly on what to do and settled on telling my sister. Of course her dad was livid! I felt bad getting her in trouble but would have felt terrible if anything bad would have happened to her if I simply let it slide! In today's world with technology available kids don't need privacy they need protection!

My SD13 has an Ipod touch which you can text from. I have been trying to figure out how I can monitor her text messages. They should make these devices easier for parents to monitor. I am not one of those parents who thinks that these young kids don't need to be texting or have cell phones. Funny cause DH didn't think so either until SD13 wanted an ipod touch for christmas. Then all of a sudden it was ok for her to be texting. I was livid. So he can change the rules for her?? Apparently and then when I called him on it he made up some other excuse. GRRR. I will keep googling it until i can find away to monitor her texting
