Ever have one of those amazingly good days?

Seriously. No sarcasm intended. Today was one of those days. A little backstory; we ended up skipping Easter (in my house Ostara) because we were really short on cash. We ended up getting some things paid off last week and had a few hundred left. We decided (DH and I, being as responsible as we are) to buy the children a trampoline as a makeshift/late Ostara gift. We waited until the children were asleep and set the whole thing up in the dark. SS5 and DD7 woke up this morning and were STOKED! Great start to the day.

DH had homework to finish up today while I drove half an hour to help out some family members. I assumed the children would want to stay here and jump on the new and fancy trampoline. I was half wrong. DD7 wanted to stay and play, but SS5 wanted to go with me. First time he's ever wanted to spend one on one time with me (we don't force it, we figure the kids will ask when they are ready).

We drove almost the entire half hour two the relatives' house, when SS5 saw a trail on the side of the road and asked what it was. I asked if he wanted to stop and take a closer look. We did. We ended up spending an extra half hour on an impromptu hiking trip through the corner of a national park. So much fun. There were a few minor corrections to be made today, but nothign I wouldn;t expect out of any 5 year old boy.

We've never had a day together like today. It seems like every good day that starts out this way, has to be ruined at some point. Usually the point at which he doesn't what he wants right then and there. Not today. He's handled "no" and criticism without complaint. Couple that with the awesome one-on-one time...I couldn't have asked for a better day with SS5. Hoping this is the beginning of more great days to come.

I'm not sure what our plans for Beltane will be. The religious aspect of our lives is a bit sensitive as BM's family is REALLY against my beliefs, so we tread lightly. We also like the kids to experience a bit of everything for themselves, so they can decide what is right for them. It'll be our first Beltane in our own place as a family (rather than being in the basement/guest house of a family member). Excited, but not sure where to draw the line I guess. Have any suggestions on how to tread lightly and respect the BM's fam as well?
