OT - House Anxiety

lieutenant_dad's picture

You're probably going to see several blogs from me in the coming weeks not really step-related just so I can get out some stress/anxiety.

We had the home inspection today of the new house. A few things that we'll need to address, but nothing major. All good news!

We've spent the entire last week packing and getting our current house "show ready". I don't know why, but going to the inspection for the new house has sent my anxiety through the roof. I keep thinking "what if something major is wrong with our current house and we just don't know it?!"

I have no reason to think that. We hired a contractor to fix some stuff (we needed a roof, new header board and back door, etc). He did an inspection of the home before he gave us a list of his recommendations, and he didn't indicate anything like the foundation (slab) being cracked or anything of the sort. So why is my anxiety so high?!

I'm assuming that it's because we've put an offer on a new house without selling our current one. We can float both for a while, and our current house is a great starter home that we're selling at (current) starter home price. In theory, it'll sell quickly. DH and I looked at houses we thought were worse than ours that were pending in less than a week. Hell, I just drove by one that is pending, and the roof over the carport looks like they just laid one giant shingle sheet over it and called it a roof.

I hate anxiety. I have been talking to a therapist (because, holy sh*t, I would have gone absolutely insane with everything going on if I hadn't) and we're now working on anxiety management. He sent me some stuff to read, and I haven't had time to even open the email. I haven't had time to do my homework. I haven't had time to turn in mortgage paperwork (doing that tonight, though). I think it's just way too much due RIGHT THE F**K NOW.

I suppose in the positive side, we're halfway packed so we can space out the rest over the coming weeks. And YSS has been taking charge with his schoolwork, so we haven't had to do as many "family homework nights". Spring Break will help, too.

I'm just overwhelmed, and with the pandemic and weather and time, I have very few outlets. Work is also a nightmare, and will continue to be so until June. I'm actually really thankful that we paused fertility treatment and that I'm not pregnant. God apparently knows this isn't a smart time for that big of a change, and I can't say I disagree.

Ugh, I just need to get to July. It's not that far out.

It sounds like YSS is doing well with his schoolwork, thats a good sign.  When you list your anxiety triggers, you didnt mention him but I know from your blogs how deeply his issues have affected you.  Hang in there, Lt.  Just do only what must be done today.  Breathe in, breathe out.  Good luck.

It is definitely stressful buying on one end and selling on the other.  Having your life upended and in boxes doesn't help the anxiety.

Try to take a few short (5 minute) breaks in the day for yourself.  Try a meditation app or just sip tea and listen to soothing music.

You WILL get through this.  Your house WILL sell.  So just hang in there and think of how great it will feel when this is all behind you!

Good luck!!!

so I doubt you will have any issues selling your home. I do agree it might be worth getting your own inspector to inspect your home especially if you are that stressed about it. I know it is hard not to stress, but be excited you have a new home and SS is doing better ! Smile

I feel for you. Buying and selling houses is stressful. And I always find moving to be super stressful too. Fingers crossed it will be relatively smooth for you and over soon.

Lt Dad, with everything else going on in your life, it's no wonder to me that you have anxiety. Honestly, I think selling the house is the least of your worries. Breathe, hon. Breathe! {{{hugs}}}
