I knew it had been too quiet for too long...

DH got a call from BM stating that her electric is being turned off at 10:00 PM tonight. According to her, it's not due to non-payment. No, it's because her XH of over a year finally decided to take the electric out of his name, so they are just coming out to turn it off since he took it out of his name.

Now, I don't know much about utilities, but it seems odd that, out of nowhere, the electric company calls and says it's getting shut off TONIGHT with no warning. Especially since someone is living in the apartment. Especially when the bill is paid in full.

Methinks something else is going on. Not my problem, though.

DH is leaving to go get the boys and bring them to our place for an indeterminate amount of time. Theoretically, it's just for tonight. In practice, we'll see.

I'm annoyed. I've had a rough start to my work week and I'm in baby-ready mode. I was hoping for wild, angry sex tonight. Looks like it's a bath and a gag instead.

I'm noy buying that 10pm shutoff either.

Use the gag and still have sex? *dirol*

Yeah that seems really odd. Utilities will give you a warning and time to pay before even considering shut off.

And why would they shut off if not due to nonpayment? *pleasantry*

She says that her XH took it out of his name and asked for the utilities to be turned off since he doesn't live there anymore. But I would have thought they would have said "hey, we are going to turn these off unless you want us to keep these on." Apparently not.

Utilities here don't care If someone is living in the apartment. If you take your name off the bill, and no one else calls to put the bill in their name, they shut it off. If the ex knows that her XH is taking the bill out of his name, why didn't she just put it in hers?

Here they don't shut off electricity after business hours.

Excellent question that I don't have an answer to. I guess we'll see what happens tomorrow.

Probablly the ex is waiting for your DH to step up and offer to pay her utility bill.  Bwahahahaha.  At least I hope that's laughable.

Yeah, if DH pays it, he can go back and move in with her. He has already felt my wrath once with that BS, and I have zero problems packing his sh*t and sending him back to her if he wants to play sugar daddy. And he knows it, too.

Industry standards is they turn off in the mornings to give people time to make an application. Most utilities close at 6 pm. I don’t buy the 10 pm scenario. Also making an application for a turn on isn’t hard and they bill you for your deposits and turn on fees . You can even ask for your deposits to be broken up in an installment plan of 3 months. It’s not your husband’s problems . And if she goes 12 hours with no power until she makes application ? People freak the hell out when they are part of a power outage. If you leave your fridge shut your groceries will be fine . My AC has been broken for two weeks . I got the new unit Thursday . None of us died .

Thank you. This is what I was assuming. This is a big city electric company, so I highly doubt they are sending people out after business hours to turn stuff off. I don't know her angle, and that has my Spidey senses on overdrive. Maybe it's just a booty call and she came up with some lame excuse to get the kids out. Maybe she is being evicted and is moving their stuff out while the kids aren't there. Who knows!

My DH bought BMs childhood home for them from her dad. Once they broke up and she moved in with her new boyfriend, her dad did the same thing with SS, at one year’s old, staying in the house. The company didn’t care either. They told DH he should of had it switched to his name when the new deed to the house was made. He had to pay a reconnection fee and supply all new information for the account.

If her story about it being in XH's name is true, then I can see the electric company turning off the power. It's the 10pm time that I take issue with.

I did a quick Google search to see if I could find Anti-Canada's policies around shut offs, and what I found was that power cannot be shut off after mid-afternoon so that people have a chance to make payment and get it turned back on same-day.

Granted, this was for folks who had unpaid bills. There was no section of the FAQ for "I have been leeching ofd my XH for over a year and he finally had it so he had my electric shut off because it was still in his name; when will they shut off my power and how do I find another sucker to have it turned back on for me?"
