Sickness and BM1 butting into our Vacation

KiFire's picture

I've finally succumbed to the millions of nasty virus' floating around this year. I generally do not get sick, I get colds every year but I almost never get "really" sick. I had a fever for the first time in memory on Wednesday night and skipped class. Went to the Doc on Thursday and left with a pile of meds and the diagnosis of "well, you probably have/ have had the flu for the last couple weeks.. and I can hear that you're getting pneumonia. No you don't need x-rays, you have decreased lung function on your left side, I can hear it." I guess I either catch nothing or catch it all. So, I'm out of work and school for the rest of the week.

Annd while the girls were over last weekend (I'm so slow on blogging) we were picking out the colors of their Magic Bands because we're going to Disney World! The SDs and SO have never been and BS5 hasn't been since he was 2. We told them about the trip right after we booked it, but we purposely did not tell them when we would be going. BM1 has been known to withhold SD8 if she thinks SO will be doing something BM hasn't already done. Sorry, but neither BM is ever going to have the resources to take those kids to Disney. They've already missed out on Disney once over this stupid ideal when SO and I first got together and they aren't missing it again.

We're sitting around the table and SD8 comes out with "I gotta watch my attitude or Mumma won't let me go to Disney with you." Uh, sorry. No. I flat-out told SD8 that while it's important that she be respectful and that I think it's great that BM is holding her to proper standards; BM can't stop her from going to Disney. SO and I paid for it, it's happening on our time, she has no say. Sorry BM, control your kid without using us as a bargaining chip.

I hate to pry into your personal business...butttt

Me and DH really want to take SS3 to Disney during the Summer, but it looks like its going to cost us a fortune. Are y'all staying in a resort or nearby hotel? We don't live near there so we would have to stay in a hotel regardless. And what kinds of bands did you get them? When I looked on the website, i just noticed the passes; we were going to buy the four day passes that lets us get into 1 park a day (i think) and access to the water park. All in all, the website checkout said it was going to cost us more than a couple thousand so Im just curious if you know of anything that could help us lower that a bit.

We're staying on-site at a resort. Those aren't what kill you, the ticket prices and the airlines and food are what cost a small fortune. For the hotel room is like $150/night after taxes, which is very similar to what it costs around here, I live in New England so we're going to fly down and back, that alone is going to cost us around $2500, but there are 5 of us. Tickets are around $1500 for three days for all five of us. Mousesavers.com has a link to discounted tickets or you can buy tickets through AAA. For us (and most people) it's better to get a meal-plan if you can.

The bands are if yu stay in a resort, it has your meal-plan, your room key and your park tickets loaded on it and you just wave it to get in your room, in the parks, and to pay for food.. you can also have it set up with a credit card so you can make purchases with it as well.

Overall we're looking at around 5-6k for the five of us. Driving would knock a shit-ton of money off the price but I can't handle the SDs and BS in a car for two days straight. If it were just BS we'd drive. My dad is really the expert but I'm learning as I go.

I'm convinced that we should stay in a resort, with the bands being connected to everything like food, park entry and other stuff I think it would simplify things a lot. I mean we've accepted this trip is going to cost a pretty penny so why not stay as close to the parks and food as possible! I can't wait to see how yalls trips turn out!

You can save a bit by purchasing your tickets from ticketsatwork.com.

For our trip next month (Easter - on site with the dining plan), I booked the room and dining plan through Disney (the Better together package)and got our tickets from tickets at work. I only paid $380 per adult for a 7 day hopper, water park and more pass. I paid for a 4 day ticket and the other 3 days were free. I was also able to get a 30% discount on the room.

The only thing we're paying full price for is the dining plan and the Fireworks cruise (Illuminations).

Kifire, have you booked your meals for your trip?
