Say Yes to the Dress...But NOT with the Stepdaughter!!!

katielee's picture

I watched "Say Yes to the Dress" yesterday (because it happened to be playing on tv) and there was a portion of the show where soon-to-be SM, Dad, and stepdaughter all went together to pick out wedding dresses. (I do NOT know whose brilliant idea this was or even where SD's fiance' was...that might've helped.)

SD spent the whole show being pouty and whiny because her dad didn't have the same "OMG You're beautiful" reaction to any dress she picked out that he had to his wife-to-be's EVERY SINGLE CHOICE lol.

This man was obviously in love with his fiancee and it showed. Every time she came out of the dressing room it was, "You are beautiful! I love it!" With SD, it was "Yeah, that's nice." SD got poutier and poutier with every dress.

Finally the staff had to come out and talk to dad and tell him she wasn't going to pick a dress until she got that reaction, so he reacted accordingly.

SD acted just like a little girl, twisting around and swishing her skirts. Then she says, "OK so who wins?"

Seriously???

SM's smile seemed pasted on her face and everybody ignored the question.

I foresee problems in their future.

I wonder if SD saw that episode and saw them tell her father to give her that reaction? She would know then his reaction was fake and maybe she would see how she had been acting.

Are both the sd and sm engaged? I'm confused. Hopefully sd won't be participating in events like that in the future.

You know, I had the BEST daddy in the world and I wouldn't have even thought of bringing him along for my wedding dress fitting. I guess that's a thing I would see sharing with my mother or my sisters. In my case, I took both my dad's sisters too, my wonderful aunts. But I think if I'd have asked Dad he would have been like, "What do you mean? Do I HAVE to go???" He would have been horrified lol.

The SD wasn't wrong because she was a SD. She was wrong because she acted like a spoiled rotten brat. She obviously tried to show her SM-to-be just who was Daddy's little princess and it just didn't work out for her. Poor wittle princess. Honestly, she made me want to puke.

YES, if she wanted Daddyyyy along, she should have had her own fitting. I would like to know whose idea it was to bring both so I could know who to call s t u p i d.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and just disagree with you here. Yes, SD should have had the privilege of having her father help her pick her dress. I would have loved to have had my dad there when I picked mine, but mom forgot to bring the urn (har har).

But katielee does have an excellent point - the girl was acting like a spoiled brat. Yes, every girl wants her father's approval. But if she doesn't get it, she doesn't get to act like an ass. Maybe dad didn't like ANY of the dresses. Maybe he's having a tough time thinking of his little girl getting married. Maybe he doesn't like the guy she's marrying. And it really is a pretty bad idea to take two women wedding dress shopping - two women who have lived a lot of their lives in competition for the same man's attention.

I'd say the same thing if the future SM had acted that way. Don't forget it's a special time for her too. As katielee said, it's not that she was a future SD, it's that she was a brat. Pouting, whining and manipulating is NOT an attractive way to get what you want, no matter who you are.

I wonder if the producers had anything to do with the behavior.

The way some of the family members and friends act on that show can't be real. The producers have to be prompting them.

I wonder how much of that 50K the show covered.

The conflicts on these shows are staged. What SM and adult SD are going to go wedding shopping together???? Neither woman would want the other to rain on her parade. Why would a bride take her future husband? Isn't the norm/tradition for the groom not to see the dress until you walk down the aisle?

In my experience, having dad there is more common than having your future husband. I think both are rather odd.

WTF...REALLY's picture

My daughter bought hers off the internet. We looked at dresses via computer (we live in different states) and when we loved one, she ordered it. Welcome to the new age. Lol

But no dad or future husband helping...that is too new age for me. Lol
