Awkward visit to ER

S/O had to take FSD to the ER over the weekend. She had been playing outside while S/O and I made breakfast and when she came back in, she said her eye hurt. S/O brushed it off. Later he noticed one of her eyes was puffy on the eyelid but it didn't look serious. Later, we went to the movies with his whole family and Idk who noticed but the original puffy eyes was worse and her second eye began to swell too. So it was decided she needed to go to the ER. He asked me to come along and I said sure even though I was thinking why? Not because I don't care but because I'm not her mom and I was thinking he would call her mom and I didn't want to deal with the awkwardness and be painfully aware of how useless I am there. I went along anyway because it was an emergency and I didn't want to waste time dropping me off at home. I figured I could just wait in the waiting room or outside when BM came. I waited and waited for him to call, or at the very least, text BM but he didn't. Turns out I'm not so useless however because when the nursed asked if FSD is allergic to anything, S/O said no and then I had to remind him of her allergy to amoxicillin. The nurses were talking to me directly, kept trying to give me all the medical stuff and sign papers and I kept having to direct them to him. It was SUPER awkward. The diagnosis is that she had an allergic reaction to something. I seem to be the only person concerned about what exactly it is she came into contact with but I tried to stay out of it, still waiting for him to call BM. She was given Benadryl and he was given a prescription for more. He didn't go get it because he said he would just buy some which is stupid because FSD has free healthcare so I'm pretty sure the prescription would have been free but again, I'm staying out of it.

Flash forward to the next morning, and S/O sent FSD downstairs for a swim with her grandfather and the first thing I ask when I wake up is how are her eyes. He said he didn't check. I ask him why but quickly say "never mind you're a dude" I just hoped that his mother would look at them. My question prompted him to go downstairs and check her eyes and shortly thereafter rushes back upstairs to get dressed. I asked him what was going on and he said her eyes were much worse than last night. I look at them and yeah they were. One of them was practically shut so I have no clue how he didn't notice it. So we went to get Benadryl. After we got back from the store he was about to give her the amount that you give older children. Even though it says on the bottle to only give the amount prescribed by the doctor to children of her age group. I stopped him and told him to give her the amount on the prescription. He said they didn't prescribe an amount. I knew they did because that's their friggin job so I went to read the prescription and showed it to him. He STILL hadn't called BM at this point. He said he didn't want to because he knew she'd be mad that he didn't call her the day before when we were at the ER. I convinced him it'll be MUCH worse in a few days when she finds out anyway because he is supposed to make an appointment with her pediatrician for an allergy test and that he HAS to tell her all of this. Plus, I don't want BM to think I was trying to play mom so I urged him to call her. We don't have problems so far but I would totally understand if she got pissed if she found out I was there and not her.

I don't understand why he wouldn't call her in the first place. I chalk all the other stuff up to him being a dude. I noticed the swelling so did his sister and his mother but his dad couldn't figure out what the fuss was about. One of her eyes was so swollen it looked like she was in a bar fight and I had to point it out to her grandfather. He was like "OOOOOHH, yeah I never would have noticed that".

Well, that was my weekend. Hope all of yours were less awkward.

Luckily, we've never had to take my SD to the ER or doctor when she's been with us. I know her BM would find a way to make it our fault, no matter what the situation was. I hope we don't have deal with this in the future.

We had to take SS3 to the ER one mornin. His eyes were swollen shut almost but he felt fine. He was stung by a hornet and they had to give him a steriods shot that cleared him up within the next hour. He was also perscribed benedryll but we were already giving that to SS before we went to the ER and it didn't stop the swelling just slowed it down. It might have been a hornet sting

As for DH, he texted BM at 6am and then his phone died so by 7 we were back in the car going home before he could charge and text her back that we were all done.
