OT- Drunk Co-worker this morning

My morning has been hilarious!!! Ok, pretty serious, considering he drove a company truck to get here and I am HR but.... funny after the fact!

I got a call this morning that we had a drunk driver in one of our trucks. I get calls like that all the time. If one of my guys doesn't use a turn signal, we have drunk or wreckless drivers. I take all the information and a few minute later one of my crew guys comes stumbling into my office. I am alone with this guy and he is a fairly recent hire. If it were one of the guys I have known for years I would have snatched keys right out of thier hands and called their wife to pick their dumb ass up. However, I don't really know this dude and I don't know what kind of drunk he is. I have to call 2 others to get to the office asap while watching him hold on to a chair in my office like it is a tilt-a-whirl! He starts talking about the "purty can" I have on my desk (La Croix sparkling water) LOL. This goes on for a while. He tells me I should frame it. I tell him what a great idea that is... LMAO. I am no longer worried but figured I would let the production supervisor get to my office to handle his dude.

The supervisor gets here and asks him if he had been drinking. The guy goes "well... last night." The supervisor goes- I think you stopped a little too late there buddy. The guy says "Haha... yup". We have another guy drive him home. I got to call his wife and let her know. Poor woman was so embaressed!

My life is never dull. That is for sure!!

What is wrong with people?

I had a co-worker show up drunk several years ago. Her drive to work was about 45 minutes (and a lot of traffic). She had nobody to come and pick her up, so the supervisor made her sit at her desk (and do nothing) until she sobered up. The chick was mad that she couldn't make sales calls! I mean, that's just what a company wants, a drunk person calling their customers.

That's scary. I hope this is at least Strike One on his record. Some companies would immediately terminate him.

If we keep him, still deciding- no more company truck and a large pay decrease.

My thought to this... His wife is going to be PISSED.

That's all. He deserves it. But dang can you imagine being the wifey?

I showed up for my first day at Philip Morris where I was starting an accounting job.  Apparently everyone has to go through a basic little health check the first day.  They test your hearing.. breath function AND a breathalizer.  I was a bit surprised at that.. like would I really need to have a few drinks to bolster my nerve for my first day at work  haha.  They said you would be surprised at how many fail the test.  Out celebrating their super good new job the night before... not sober by 7 am.

The company I work at now would likely fire him straight out.  It's not like he showed up or was driven to work and you found him at a desk.. he made the decision to get in your company vehicle and drive to work.  I can't believe he didn't know he was still too impaired by the way you said he was acting.  Certain things should probably be zero tolerance.  At the very least, I would require him to go through a substance abuse class like VASAP where they test him for alcohol use.

That's crazy, but I guess it makes sense!

I still don't know what the owner of the company wants to do, he was just glad he wasn't there when the guy came in. He said he would have been afraid he would have hit him for putting our business at such a risk not to mention all the kids going to school that time of day.

I can’t imagine drinking so much that I’m still drunk the next day.  But I never drink more than 2 and go to bed at 9, so I guess that’s why I can’t imagine it.

But you have to drink A LOT to still be drunk in the morning.

And not just a little drunk. Falling down the stairs outside drunk the next day!!!

OY... Nope I am a 2 and done for the night girl as well.

Seriously, you probably have to have the equivalent of 20-25 drinks to still be drunk at 7 am - unless you start drinking at 2 am.
