My reindeer loves me

Jcksjj's picture

So SD had to write about an imaginary reindeer for school. The last part of the paper said What is special about my reindeer is: and SDs answer was "Her love for me. She cares about me." I wish it was just a school paper, but that pretty much sums up her whole outlook on life. Other people exist to worship her and they dont have anything special about them or even thoughts or feelings themselves. Everyone exists to give her attention and that's it. I sure hope she grows out of it since her mom is still like that and idk if I could handle having to deal with an adult like that on a regular basis.

You mean there is a point to people existing other than to be of service to children of divorce?  They don't disappear like mist when the child is not directly looking at them?  They are actually allowed to have wants and needs and lives of their own?  Are you SURE?  Because that is not what I have been told for the last decade.

Nope sorry. Not even an imaginary reindeer can have a purpose other than blind worship for the poor skid. My SD actually told me once that she forgets any of us exist when shes at her moms and then kind of laughed. So as far as she is concerned I guess we do disappear when we aren't in her presence.

Yikes.  She actually said that?  I was just joking around about skid attitude.  That is some straight up sociopath thinking!

She did. She was young but I still found it odd and kind of off putting especially the way she kind of seemed amused by it. I had a friend that knew BM well because they were from the same small town and that was going to school for psychology tell me BM fits the narcissist profile to a T. She pulled up the list of traits and I was like yep...that's her. So I have a feeling some of that attitude/behavior has gotten passed down and its just the way they are. Probably beyond a typical spoiled skid thing.

Usually developed in infancy. At the point they start getting what's up with the Peek-A-Boo "magic." You cease to exist whenever she's not thinking of you, hearing you, or looking at you.

Sorry, I don't think it's all that unusual that she loves her reindeer because her reindeer loves her. A lot of human relationships are based on that exact same principle

Really? I can usually name something that I think is special about people that I love other than that they love me. Also, like it says in the post it's not just the paper, that is 100 percent her in general. Even DH thought it was bizarre.
