The most obnoxious kid in the world

I almost wrote a post yesterday morning about how SD was surprisingly unbratty this week. I guess I shouldnt have even thought it, because she made up for it last night.

One of my friends came over with her son to hang out and watch fireworks. And then my brother did also. Once they got there, SD got on what I call her "attention high." When there's people around and she starts getting any attention she acts like shes manic/high/just smoked a bunch of crack. Would not stop talking. I'm not joking, she didnt stop for hours. Narrating anything and everything she saw just to keep the attention on her. We told her to go play with the other kids over and over and she just kept coming back, wanting my friend to hang out with her instead of me. Running around kicking a soccer ball into windows and wouldnt stop running through the neighbors yard that they just planted grass in and was full of mud. We brought a speaker out and she kept demanding we play the songs she wanted. DH and I both told her no, and go play with the other kids. Awhile later we both went in for a couple minutes to put the younger 2 kids to bed. What a surprise, we come out to SD dancing to the music she wanted on with my friend. I hate that people indulge her crap, I get why they do because it feels wrong to not be extra nice to a kid, but it makes things even worse. And then friend was taking some pictures of my 2 year old and SD of course saw a camera and demanded that there be pictures of her too, so she sat and did exactly what my 2 year old had been doing - as a 9 year old.

The contrast between last weekend when we had the birthday party when she wasn't there and this weekend was obvious. All the constant attention seeking, being loud and obnoxious, and general Me Me Me makes any event less enjoyable with her there.

I don't see how old the girl who is but I understand what you are going through.  We have 9 GKs ( blended family) and 2 of the GDs were/are like this. One is my GD, the other is my DH 's GD.  They are good people but it is so exhausting to be around each of them.  My GD37 was an only child and only GC on the other side so she got plenty of this attention.  She is still somewhat like this, kind of dramatic, somewhat self-centered.  I love her but it is tiring to be around her.  My DH's GD28 is another me-me-me person and always has been.  No attention is ever enough.  She is a teacher now and expecting her 1st child.  Right now we are hearing about all the drama of her virtual baby shower.  She is a sweet person but exhausting.  Some people are just like this, i feel for you.

No attention is ever enough- 100%. It literally looks like an addiction to me. Like she cant control herself. It definitely is exhausting.

My SD 8 is like this. When she was younger her mom would laugh at her "crazy" behavior. She would even say my mom likes it when I am crazy. I just find it annoying and gringe-worthy. Sometimes is it the age. Like I remember meeting a boy who was around the age she is now and i thought omg this kid is annoying. Lately it feels like my sd takes over every situation. My daughter does something cute she gets right in there copying her, I am talking to my husband and she is right there butting in. Of course if I say anything My husband will just argue with me in front of her. It is all a blast -.-

BM is extremely attention seeking and self centered herself and definitely encourages the behavior.

She takes over every situation is EXACTLY how I feel when shes around. No one else can ever have anything or any attention, she has to butt in and take it away. She even does it with strangers sometimes, interrupting their conversations and talking about herself.
