Morning meltdowns

JBDmom's picture

Both of the girls decided today would be a good day to have completely over the top meltdowns. SD4 spilled an entire bowl of cereal all over her room but instead of just cleaning it up decided to get an attitude and yell and argue with me. It took her an entire hour to clean it because I refused to help after the way she wanted to talk to me. After she finished she still had an attitude while at the same time my DD1 was screaming her little head off because she was tired and didn’t want to sleep. I sent SD to her room because at this point I’m getting overwhelmed so she takes upon herself to start screaming just as loud as her baby sister. I had to put DD in her crib and walk out of the house for a few minutes before I exploded. So good morning to me!

I make her eat in the dining room normally but she’d asked me if she could eat breakfast in her room this morning so she could watch her movie.  I wanted to start with an easy dramatic free morning but I should’ve known better especially since I’m the one that had to knock the habit of her eating in her room because her dad would let her.

It was decided that because I was a SAHM I should watch DH's Spawn and cater to her when we got custody and I did it for a very long time. In doing so I lost the point which was I was not her parent, she had two completely enabling parents who were screwing her up royally.

I ended up the one everybody resented and hated because I implemented rules and discipline. By the time Spawn was 16 1/2 I was done, but the damage to all of us was so extensive it was unrepairable.

You have a choice at this point, she is only 4. Tell your DH, you are the child's babysitter and should be paid accordingly, and if he doesn't like that then he can find a babysitter to drop SD off with.

Her mother hasn’t been in her life for 2 years and hasn’t made a single attempt to be. As far as SD knows I’m her mom and she respects me as one. Her dad though treats her more like a friend than a daughter which is where her lack of respect comes from.
