Am I the only one?

I love dogs's picture

SD was over this afternoon and I made mac n cheese for her for dinner to share with DH. I made her stir the cheese in and she said "I made french toast for 'my family' and I burned myself on the pan". I said "yes, that happens to all of us, you'll just have to be more careful next time".

I ignored the "my family" part. By that she meant BM, the boyfriend, and BM's toddler. I guarantee she never refers to DH and me as "my family", probably just dad and SM. Nevermind we have done everything to make her feel at home and get as much visitation as possible.

Just a thought..

First of all I am extremely grateful for step talk. It is a minor addiction but it is my new escape. So my thought was: I would NEVER be brave enough to date a man with TWO BMs! No, no, and no! When I read a story that talks about BM2 I just cringe. I am not talking down to anyone, I just couldn't imagine the Hell two ex-wives with skid attachments would bring. Anyway, have a safe weekend and Happy Friday!

I wish I wasn't in so deep. Sure, I could leave my husband at this point but that's almost a decade down the drain. Our BM is nowhere near the nightmares that I read about here (withholding medical informatio, false abuse claims) but nonetheless, step life sucks a$$. Thank goodness we only have every other weekend. BM made sure DH didn't get 50/50 short of false abuse allegations. DH is hopeful SD will live with us as a teenager because she "butts heads with BM". The truth is, she is so much like her! Sorry Charlie, no unmannered teens are living in my house without consequences!

SD and her comments

As in my last post, SD isn't mature enough to consider other's feelings before speaking, yet DH always says she's mature for her age. Nope. So Facebook sends you the yearly reminders of old posts/ pictures, etc. I had posted an old pic of SD 5 years ago. When we saw her this weekend I showed her.

I almost fell out of my chair

At dinner tonight, DH was telling his friend how great I am and how lucky he is to have me. He said what a kind, giving person I am and SD decides to chime in. "My mom is nice too, why didn't you stay with her?" I was floored. Her parents haven't been together in almost 7 years and she says that. Thanks for the slap in the face, SD. She can't even remember when her parents were together except for family photos.

Little Evil on Netflix

Has anyone watched this yet? The main character, a new stepdad, finds out that his stb6 stepson is the Antichrist. It is pretty funny but focuses on stepdad's POV. The stepdads make comments such as (not verbatim) "all (s)kids are evil and out to ruin your lives", "I (stepdad) have to deal with spoiled bratty kids when they come home from Disney dad's house", and all of the stepdads are expected to be a replacement daddy and love the skids as their own.

Interesting stepfamily quotes

"He's the hero to become the step-dad and take on all that extra baggage, raising someone else's children.
She's just the stepmom".

So true.

I was also thinking about something else I read that said something to the effect of "the guy that spends more time with (raising) your kids has another man spending more time with (raising) his" as how father's unequal visitation impacts stepfamilies.
