Skid treated unfairly at school

How many times have you all heard this? Nevermind SD got caught cheating along with 4 other kids in math. They were taking the odd-numbered answers from the back of the book and fudging the work instead of doing the actual steps.

Then she was caught passing a note to her friend (this also happened 2 years ago) and apparently both girls got lunch detention. DH said (BM actually stopped by his shop to tell him this) that SD was also made to write a 4 page essay and now the mean teachers wants another 2 page essay- but only from SD.

I asked DH if he thinks there's more to the story and of course there isn't. I guess he is forgetting that SD was almost expelled 2 years ago when she entered middle school for mouthing off and doing things like this and refusing to show her work for math.

He's having a meeting this morning with BM, the principal, and the teachers involved to resolve the issue. He even admitted that BM only called him to "defend" SD. It's possible that she's being treated "unfairly" but my money is that her attitude is what is getting her the excessive punishments and her classmates are mature enough to shut up and do what they're told.

Also, I was offered a PRN position for an average of 36-40 hours a week, all hours available. I am waiting for HR to contact me with the details. I have 16 more weeks to go before baby is due. Is it ok to tell them about the pregnancy after everything is final? We already have a date for the shower in November and I need time off for my monthly midwife appointments.

"The teachers favour the SMART students. . ."     This was an excuse for their craptacular grades.  The Girhippo got the two youngest labeled as "learning disabled--other" so attendance is not required, truancy has been winked at and you can "pass" with scores ten points lower than failing.  All the "disability reports" clearly screamed that SD is NOT learning disabled but simply LAZY and that MOM won't MAKE her do anything her precious princess doesn't WANT to do.  Same currently goes for YSS stb 16.

It's opposite here. SD skipped a grade so BM and DH have always had her on a pedestal and glorified her for being "smarter than the other kids". If she was so smart, maybe she could actually figure out her math problems. She does have the lazy factor going on, though. I've helped her with her homework and she does things like forget to change signs of numbers when adding/ subtracting/ multiplying/ whatever.

I don't see how BM (or Dad) can believe SD is being treated unfairly if she was caught cheating and caught passing notes. She was either cheating and passing notes or she wasn't.... but in these incidents she was caught. So what is "unfair" in her being given a consequence?

Excessive punishment? She had to write essays and do a lousy lunch detention. Nothing excessive about the penalty. What does the student handbook lay out as student penalty procedure? Here, each violation increases the step of consequence.

Congrats on the position offer!

I told DH this but even SD called him and wants him to save her. He said he's being objective, so we'll see. They are claiming that SD is the only one being forced to write the essays. I'm curious what comes of that.

My DD29 is a teacher.  Middle school, the worst age.  Ugh.

Just this week she had several reports from kids that a certain girl was calling all the other girls “bitches”.  She denied it, but DD would've had to believe everyone was lying and this girl was the only one telling the truth.  Rather than punish the girl right off the bat, my daughter gave the whole class a lesson on dehumanizing people, without calling this girl out specifically.  The girl sat there with a pugnacious look on her face the whole lesson, while everyone else participated enthusiastically, including the girl who complained.  DD wanted to slap her.  So DD had the girl write an essay about why what she did was wrong, and the impact it had on the people she bullied.  If she doesn’t complete it, she will get an in school suspension.

Then there was the boy who laughed at a girl in class who had burst into tears about one of her family members dying.  DD told him to apologize, he said he would but didn't, so he got a referral to the principal for in school suspension.  He also has to write an essay.

Attitude matters a whole lot.

SD has been known to mouth off to teachers and she's been doing it here, too, this past week being especially bad. DH told her she sounds like a whiney 3 year old but it hasn't stopped. That baby, whiney voice is the most annoying thing ever! I haven't heard from him yet. I'm sure the teachers were justified in their punishments and that DH and BM got a side of the story that SD wasn't telling them.

you can lecture an entire group without singling out the perp and the perp will never see themselves....they'll just ignore the lecture.

I have to say it's comforting to know that no matter how a parent coddles and spoils his child, real life (AKA school or job) will deal with the child's personnality eventually.

You don't ever need to tell them about the pregnancy until you have to file for FMLA.  The law protects pregnant women that way.

The only thing is that I need a fetal dosimeter to measure baby's radiation dose and I shouldn't be put in fluoroscopy or the OR if management knows. It's technically "safe" to continue to work in radiology but I don't want any dose that is unnecessary.
