Guilty Pleasure?!

So SD14 and SD12 have been in Disney World for two weeks with BM... who has a part time minimum wage job and lives with her own mother... no new school clothes purchased because of this vacation nor any school supplies. I have totally enjoyed free weekends and no teen drama.
This weekend is SO birthday. It's not a scheduled visitation weekend, so I made surprise plans to take SO out of town for the weekend to enjoy our last weekend without the kids...I bought each girl a new outfit so they'd have SOMETHING new and nice to wear that I plan on giving them next weekend when we have them... anyway - SD14 texts me this morning and asks if we are having a birthday party for dad this weekend. I responded - no, I am taking him away for a surprise weekend. SD14 texts back asking what?! Aren't we with you this weekend I said no it's not a scheduled weekend. She text back saying oh, I just figured since we've been gone so long we'd be seeing you this weekend. I did not respond... but felt very satisfied that there is no changing the plan now... is it wrong for me to feel so satisfied that I disappointed SD and plans can't be changed????

umm...I get why you feel the way you do HOWEVER I would be thrilled if my SDs actually acknowledged their father's birthday and planned on being part of it.

Does she genuinely want to see her dad because she loves and misses him? OR does she want to see her dad because she now knows that you guys have something fun plan without her?

I only ask this because if it were my SD, she would be super pissed that even though she was having a great vacation for 2 weeks, she would expect you to wait until she came back to do anything remotely 'fun'

I think it's latter... that I planned something and didn't include them. I agree, it's great that they remember his birthday, but I don't think they were interested in spending the time with him as much as being excluded from "fun".

Mom did something fun with them - your turn. Seems like a tennis game.

Go. Have fun. Enjoy the weekend. In future maybe conveniently forget to mention secret trip beforehard!
