That's the week we usually go as well. We've been to the smoky mountains lots of times but have never explored the Bryson city area

That's one of my favorite places anywhere! So jealous! Especially since it's 5 below here and we literally have no place else to put snow if we get more.

How about the gulf coast? You could spend some time in New Orleans and then head west to Mississippi's beach resorts.

**Edited 'cause I just realized I meant 'east', not 'west'. I should not post comments pre-coffee. Blum 3

We go to ocean city, md a lot. The boardwalk is great and there is a lot to do with a really nice beach.

I live in paradise- the First Coast of Florida. Great beaches, fabulous zoo, hiking biking and right now we're at 62 degrees at 10 am. Inexpensive vacation, you won't be able to fit in everything unless you stay a month! PM me if you're interested. Smile

I love the yadkin valley in NC. Wineries and really neat towns. We have done it several times. We stay in B and B's and rent cabins and come home with at least 100 bottles of wine... the red blends in NC are fabulous.

We go to Myrtle Beach, which is perfect for us. Lots to do for the kids (SS14 and SD16 are the only two we take; SS18 is "too cool" to go with us and SS21 has his own life). For relaxing and quiet time, I prefer Key West or the Outer Banks. Or a cabin in the woods.

Santa Fe, NM - can't wait to go back.
Boulder, CO and vicinity - beautiful Rocky Mountains.
San Diego and Coronado island - breathing Pacific Ocean air, taking in the views- happy times!

Hey HMO - short drive or flying?

Short drive, there are lots of rental cabins on Lake Cumberland. My IL's live there and it's beautiful! Somerset, Monticello and Burnside are nice little towns, wineries around there (Sinking Valley and Cedar Creek are my faves!), along with some historical Civil War battlefields, etc. You can rent boats for the day (pontoons) or houseboats for the week at many places along the lake, we've done that from Burnside.

Flying/long drive - gulf coast of Florida, namely St Pete Beach. We've stayed at the Beach House Suites by the Don Cesar, which are 1-2 bdrm furnished "condos" right on the beach, with full access to all the amenities at the Pink Castle just down the beach. And the food at the Hurricane in Pass-A-Grill is wonderful, then going up to the rooftop of the restaurant to watch the sunset is beautiful!

i like PCB in the off-season. it's very peaceful when there's no "family vacationers" or spring-breakers, yet still warm enough for lounging on the beach w/ a cooler (well, that's what dh and i like to do for relaxation - lay on the beach all day, go take a nap, go out to dinner...) lots of good places to eat and plenty of really nice condo rentals w/ private balconies and all that.

Thousand Islands in upstate NY and the Poconos Mountains in PA are nice, and not too pricey.
