SD16 boyfriends mom just asked me to meet for coffee...

HappyCow's picture

They have been dating a total of three to four weeks tops. This is the same lady that when BF (I'll call him Tubbs) was dropped off at our house for the first time (about 3 months before they started "dating") to work on a group project insisted on coming inside to check out our home and to chat with DH and I for 15 minutes. Poor Tubbs looked mortified.

Tubbs is a nice polite kid who is kindy on the nerdy side. DH and I like him and we have seen the other loosers that SD16 was bringing around so we are happy with Tubbs.

BM uses my bathroom-cue creepy laughter

HappyCow's picture

Last night around 6 I was finishing up making my delicious coconut crusted chicken with delish dipping sauce when SD16 comes home from her long weekend at BM's. She tells me that BM really has to use the bathroom and could she use ours. I have no problem with it and I have actually had to use her bathroom in the past.

What is the Best Advice You Have Recieved From Step Talk?

HappyCow's picture

I don't know who said or if it was in the comments to another blog but someone posted that they can't be anymore of a parent to the skids than the actual parent. This goes through my head on a daily basis. Thank you to whoever said it and sorry if I didn't get it 100% correct.

Every day I learn a little more from this site.

Thanks Ladies and Gentleman!

Update to SD16 ADD Testing

HappyCow's picture

SD16 surprisingly has been doing really well with the therapist that my step mom recommended to us. She has actually opened up to him and they have made real progress in the short few weeks she has been going. SD16’s main concern with getting tested for ADD is that she would be required to be on medication for the rest of her life like her BM. The therapist has decided for the time being to help SD16 with life skills that include strategies for testing and time management.

OT/When did your kids or skids find out the truth about Santa?

HappyCow's picture

DD7 still believes in Santa. DH and I were talking last night that this is probably the last year we can use our "Santa card" when trying to get her to do something or stop doing something annoying. I went on the Portable North Pole site and made her the cutest personalized video (I highly recommend this site) and was feeling a little blue that my kid is soon going to be a snarky preteen know it all.

How old do you have to be to starting planning ahead?

Per our agreement with SD16 having an IPhone her way of contributing to the cost is to babysit DD6 on the occasional day off of school. They don't happen too often and a lot of times they correspond with a day that DH or I have off. SD16 goes to her BM’s every other weekend and we alternate holiday’s each year. This is the 2nd year SD16 has lived with us fulltime.

Shake it off, Shake it off-so help me if I hear this song again today!

HappyCow's picture

Uggh! I am going to shake my radio out of the window if that song comes on one more time!

I will be honest I did think the song was catchy when it first came out and the video is adorable. I even like to see that she visits sick kids in the hospital to sing for them but holy cow this song is driving me up the wall!!

OT/Halloween Shots-need ideas!!

HappyCow's picture

My neighborhood goes all out for Halloween and this year a bunch of our neighbors are doing a halloween shot table at our house (strickly monitered by our non-drikning neighbor to make sure the kids don't get any). I have already soaked gummy bears in vodka for three days which are incredible but I really need one more easy shot to make for our contribution.

Any ideas from our crafty steptalkers?

Update on SD16 getting ADD testing

HappyCow's picture

Yesterday I wrote about how we have decided to get SD16 tested for ADD and a few posters wondered why this wasn't noticed before. DH during a rare good conversation with BM found out that a few years ago she took SD16 for ADD testing. BM knew that something was off with SD16 and decided to take her in to a therapist. DH was told about the therapist appointment but he was just told at the time that it was regarding SD16's behavior not ADD testing. It's a bit confusing getting a whole story out of BM sometimes but at least now we think we know the whole story.
