Impetigo - Anyone heard of it?
So last week when my bf picked up the children from BM, the younger one had a patch of bumps with fluid in them around her mouth. My bf and I were concerned about it, but BM said she had a pimple that she itched and now it is irritated. We didn't think that was the case, but decided since we would be seeing them again in a week, if it is still there or worse, my bf would take the child to the doctor. The next day before returning the child, the patch of bumps was drying out and flaking so we took that as a good sign. Now today, my bf picks the children up again, the younger child has a patch of bumps with fluid again around her mouth. My bf asked BM what it was, she said she was taking her to the doctor on Wednesday, the nurse practitioner said it was probably impetigo. I looked up images of it and looked like it was plausible, however did not see anything about it drying out and then springing up again. Also, seems like it happens from bacteria getting in through cuts, bug bites, or scratches. I am guessing that aren't cleaned out? Because then says usually staph or strep bacteria. Any insight?

Impetigo is common in kids.
Impetigo is common in kids. It's nothing to get alarmed about. Kids get dirty hands and touch their faces.
I was alarmed because I read
how it is highly contagious and spreads really easily.
If BM took the child to the
It's common and easily treated. If BM took the child to the doctor, she should have received instructions on treatment. She should be passing those instructions to dad to continue during his time.
BM has yet to take the child to the doctor
bf said he was considering taking her to the doctor tomorrow not waiting till Wednesday when BM said she was going to take her. Especially since now it has been over a week that she has had this.
Things may have changed - but
Things may have changed - but it used to be considered highly contagious. Someone at work had it and the nurse had all the phones and other shared items sterilized.
Yeah I did
read how it is very contagious, so bf already is on the look out of keeping everything extra clean.
24 hours
Impetigo supposedly isn’t contagious if the child has been treated for this for at least 24 hours.
But yes everyone needs clean towels etc.
Okay
yeah the child has not yet been treated for it, so definitely thinking bf should go with his gut and take her to the doctor tomorrow not wait on BM who has not taken the child to the doctor for it for a week already
Ive seen it at school when I
Ive seen it at school when I used to teach. The kid was kept out of school.
Ah okay
the child went to day care today without any push back from the teachers so I guess we shall see if that changes before the end of the day today

Yeah, my sister had it a few times under her nose when she was a kid. I remember my mother telling her not to touch it or it would spread.
My daughter got it last year
My daughter got it last year when she was 7 and quickly passed it to my toddler. She had it on her torso and he had it on his face. The treatment was antibiotics and a topical ointment. She also had to miss a couple of days of school.
