Just Curious

Sd has decided that she is going to be a nurse but when asked why she says she doesn't know. We have tried to explain that it takes a lot of hard work to become a nurse. This is a person who won't clean up after herself and has bullied other kids into doing her homework for years. She has never shown the least little bit of compassion or empathy for anyone in her life. All she cares about is herself and what she can get from other people. What I want to know is if any of you are nurses and why you became one? I have met several in my life and the majority has been some of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. Unless sd undergoes a personality transplant I wouldn't let her take care of a dead houseplant.

Wow! That bad huh? She can't take care of your already dead houseplant! ROTFLMAO. Love the analogy.

Every time she sees blood even a tiny drop she faints. That's the kind of nurse I want taking care of me when I'm sick.

I say just let her run with it. The education is rigorous...it will weed her out if she doesn't have what it takes. If she makes it through the studies, she'll have plenty of opportunity to see what it's really like with the clinical experience. I bet she'll change her mind pretty soon into it....

BM was actually in nursing school for a hot minute then decided to "drop out"...which im sure is code for "flunked out". my best friend is a nurse and i know what kind of dedication it takes and what personality u have to have...caring, sympathetic, selfless...none of these come to mind when describing BM. now she just works PT as a secretary at some ghetto hospital...must be nice to CHOOSE to work PT at minimum wage and still be able to afford a new car bc of ur cs paycheck...

You know what... sometimes you just have to let the kids determine what is best for them... and that sometime means letting them stubble around in the dark for awhile. Just hope she's not in my area... lol.

Maybe it will give her a new perspective... who knows? *shrugs shoulders*

and let me tell you, it's no cake walk. It's the hardest job I've ever had. I became a nurse because I really wanted to make a difference and I wanted to help people. The thanks are few and far between, but when you get one it makes you feel good.

Your SD would have to go through schooling, and if she's as bad as you say, there's no way she will even make it through the classroom, let alone clinicals. Her instructors will tear her to shreds. I'd love to see her reaction when she has to stand next to someone who's puking their guts out or if she has to clean an adult who's just messed themselves. :O

Boy the stories I could tell...
