baby talk?

EFlores90's picture

Is it normal for a 9 year old boy to talk like a baby? He very capable to speak appropriately he has no deficits but he insists on talking like a baby and making cooing sounds? He also likes stuffed animals? Does anyone have a skid like this?

wth was I thinking's picture

Both of my SD's do this. They are 10 and 11. Some of the worst is the high pitched almost whispered 'papa? Can I ____?'

Makes me want to beat them with pillows. Heavy ones.

or dada can you buy me this? and what pisses me off is that the skid is so spoiled he has every toy and then tries to "save" his dad money by saying oh its 20 dollars that too much but does he say anything when he gets 80-90 buck lego sets?? nope

I caught my 9 year old grandson doing that this weekend. It's not something he does a lot. Actually it's the first time I've seen him do it. I told him that he didn't need to talk like a baby and he didn't anymore. I think that is way to old to talk like a baby. I think any age after "baby" is too old to talk like a baby!!

My SD16 don't really talk like a baby but her tone does change when she is talking to her father or her mother I have noticed. I won't say it's "baby" talk but it's little girl talk. Make me sick to my stomach, I want to just throw up!!

edited to add my grandson does like stuffed animals. He don't really play with them but he likes them because they are soft.

My 12 year old SD still babytalks on occasion. When she does it I just tell her I can't understand her when she uses that voice. She used to be really bad, but a bunch of times of me saying that seems to have annoyed or embarassed her out of it!

I would love to say something but I feel like my BF would get mad if I did. What do you guys think about the stuffed bears and stuffed animals??

SS12 likes to talk like a baby, brings him blankie from BM's house and refuses to sleep without it. I tell him all the time to talk like a normal person, DH doesn't answer him if he is talking babyish. BM encourages this behavior bc he is her little boy.

My BS went through a baby talk phase at 9.
DH told me it was a "SERIOUS" problem and kinda rode me hard to correct it!

When SS turned 9, he did the same! DH somehow didn't notice it for about 6 months and it wasn't a "SERIOUS" problem when his kid went through it.

DD skipped this phase when she was 9

SD is 10, still in the phase and I could care less anymore.

In our household, 9-10 y.o. talking baby talk is a phase they all went through and a very annoying one at that!

Nope. But if one of them did I would tell him quietly that I just may be videoing him on my phone and then getting it to his class in a couple weeks. Then hold the phone/camera up in his direction eery now and then.

I suspect he doesn't want to grow up and as long as he is allowed to do it he will. Just tell his father it isn't cute and rather weird that he doesn't encourage his own son to grow up into a fine young man. His last name isn't Bates is it????
