granddaughter all over mom's boyfriend
Have an 11 yr. old granddaughter who loves my daughter's boyfriend. However, Christmas night I was very uncomfortable - she was laying across his lap, baring her stomach, all over him. I have never seen any potential stepdaughter act this way with a non-relative, no less a relative. Maybe I'm a grandmother, but it made everybody uncomfortable -she should be sitting next to him, or near him, but this was very physical. Am I wrong? She craves attention, and will do anything to get it. Grandma

How is the 11 year old's relationship with her dad? How long has BF been with Mom? If her dad is not in the picture, she may be searching for male attention to fill the void in her life, unfortunately sometimes this is subconsciously (most likely at 11 years old) or even consciously (most likely older) sexualized. A daughter can exhibit the Electra Complex - a daughter's sense of competition with her mother for the affection of her father. I don't see why this could not happen with Mom's BF as well, if he is the only father figure in her life or has been a large part of her life for an extended period of time. Just my thoughts.

And, given that she's about to hit puberty, she's trying her "moves" on a readily available male figure who she feels she can safely disguise her intentions as that of a daughter figure. It's actually relatively common--she may even have a crush on him. I've seen tweens/teens/even older females do this. Sometimes it's to an uncle or a family friend but mother's BF/father's GF (yes, some boys crush on their stepmothers) are usually easy targets.
