Stepmonster strikes again, apparently

We purchased a new couch this afternoon. Naturally, with that, we had to move our old couch into the garage until we could get it sold or bulk collections takes it away. There was a lot of opening and closing of the front and back doors as we were moving things in and out, and we told SD to stay either upstairs, in the kitchen, or in the dining room until we were done. Naturally, she decided not to do that, and was standing directly in front of the front door as I swung it open. The door hit her hard in the face. She told me that she was okay, then went to go cry in her room. Then, she threw a tantrum saying that she wanted her mommy. Why she wanted her mommy specifically, I do not know. SO told her that's why he had instructed her to stay put, but now she's still screaming and crying about wanting her mommy. Now because of this stress, SO is pissed off and is taking it out on me. It's like I can't do anything right.

tell him that it makes you feel badly because it ended up hurting her and now he is making you feel bad. I know that it was actually her fault, but making him feel bad for making you feel bad maybe the way to go on this to get him taking out his stress on you over this to stop.

don't do it in a mean way, do it in a reverse psychology way. if he is not a total a hole, then he will feel bad for what he is doing. You were not wrong. And there is no reason for him to be being mean to you. But, if you stay defensive and hostile over this, it will only make him more like he is right now.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I ended up going the reverse psychology route, and said that I felt "so guilty" about hurting her that I needed to go clear my head and "stop making them both uncomfortable". I left and went to the yarn store, and by the time I came back, he had apologized, and then at dinner asked SD what she learned today, and she said that she learned to do as SO and I say, because it's dangerous if she doesn't! Thanks so much, StepTalk!
